The fithy Communist, Nazi, Antichrist President will return 5% of his salary (~$400,000) to show solidarity with federal workers who are also suffering because of the sequester.

It will make zero difference and a president's salary is typically irrelevant to them.

Oh, one-twentieth of his salary. A whole twenty thousand dollars. That'll do a lot.

Yusuke420

I think the 250k salary was in the 1990s. Later on in the Clinton years the salary was raised to $400,000, which took effect when Bush became president. I think that Bush and Obama both got $400,000 annual salaries but they were supposed to only get secret service protection for 10 years after their term ended (though I think Congress is considering giving them lifetime secret service protection like the previous presidents get because of the War on Terror).

Wow. Republicans criticize the man for everything, don't they? If he makes a mistake, they're the first ones to jump on it. When he makes some kind of gesture that's meant to be (albeit, small) something nice, they're the first to jump on HOW small that gesture is. Jesus f*cking christ.

That's a nice gesture to make. Leaders must take some sacrifice upon themselves if they want other people to also make sacrifices.

I think that the Executive branch, Congress and the courts will need to trim down some of their operating expenses as well.

Also is the sequester really a budget cut? I've heard that even with the sequester the gov't is still spending more money this year than they did last year.

Ture it isn't much, and it's just a gesture, but it's better than voting yourself a pay raise, which Congress seems to do a lot.

Before you can consider that. You have to argue for a year or two about a specific issue and get nothing done... and then maybe 3-4 years later you may be able to do it. You have to aruge for a long time first. That is the procedure.

I actually agree with Republicans jumping on this. Why should Obama do this when it's not even a drop in the bucket? It reminds me of when John Boehner first became speaker and said that he will have everyone in House take a 10% pay cut, and use it to help pay down the debt as if it would make any sort of difference.

This is what we call political BS.

True. And it's pretty tough because during all those years you have to continue pretending there's a difference between the 2 sport teams. Glad I'm not Barack Romney.

hah yeah like the prophet Bill Hicks once said: "I'll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here. "I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs." "I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking." "Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!" "Shut up! Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control. Here's Love Connection. Watch this and get fat and stupid. By the way, keep drinking beer, you f*cking morons.""

Ignorance is bliss. Do you really think the President's salary and Congress' salary is where these people get most of their money? If you think this is anything but a purely political move you need a reality check.

He's a politician. I'm sure the politicians you support NEVER do anything political! And clearly any time Obama does anything positive, it's CLEARLY a political move! You don't see how that kind of logic can essentially be infinite and encompass every behavior he engages in?

I am not saying that him receiving a salary is unconstitutional. I am saying that if he had any decency to him then he would know that he does not deserve to be rewarded for his failures, he would return the money, and he would spend the rest of his term staying out of the way or even resign.

A better way of showing solidarity is to find compromise and end the sequester.  Both sides are just being stupid.

[QUOTE="Laihendi"]That is just a political stunt, and I find it offensive that he thinks he is entitled to any tax-funded salary for the awful job he is doing.Laihendi

 You're trying hard again

I am not saying that him receiving a salary is unconstitutional. I am saying that if he had any decency to him then he would know that he does not deserve to be rewarded for his failures, he would return the money, and he would spend the rest of his term staying out of the way or even resign.

How can one think he's entitled to something that has been lawfully designated to anyone in his position since the birth of statism in America courtesy of Washington and Co.?
