Theres an ongoing thread talking about how much Cartoon Network sucks and is only a shadow of its former self with no cartoon programming...

I agree that it isn't on par with the Dexters Lab era Cartoon Network... it is pretty good, better than its been the past few years.

1) One of the complaints was the lack of cartoons. For a brief time last year after cancelling Toonami, CN replaced the block with a live action block. Thats already been cancelled. If you want Toonami back, get a joint effort and write Cartoon Network. You'd be surprised at the results that could get.

2) The cartoons themselves are also crappy. Once again I disagree. The Regular Show and Adventure Time are both surprisingly funny (moreso the Regular Show). Regular Show is the closest you can get to a modern day Rocko's Modern Life type cartoon on children's programming. It appeals to adults as much as kids. Its honestly one of my favorite TV shows right now. On top of the comedy programming, it has action and story oriented shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars (which has gotten progressively better since Season 1) and Young Justice.

3) They still show reruns of shows like the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab during the day. As well as more recent shows like Billy and Mandy. Alot of variety there. Unlike Nickelodeon, which has completely compromised its programming schedule in favor of infinite loops of reruns of iCarly and Spongebob.

I think we should focus all of our negative energies on Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon was always meh (with a few exceptions like Avatar).

CN went from spectacular to meh.

So we complain more.

Rugrats is good for young children, but transcends ages bad.

All of those are great except Zim never liked that show. Kenan always made me laugh as a kid. Rocko's modern life and Rugrats were also two of my favorites. And Dercoo it appears the only shows you like are basically Japanese. Don't come in and attack western toons when you appear biased. Although I have always hated anime . So I am essentially biased too.

The problem with Cartoon Network IMO is they are trying too much to be like MTV instead of finding its own identity. Live action shows, reality-like shows such as total drama island and 6teen, and the absence of Toonami is destroying what Cartoon Network built during the 90's to the mid 00's IMO...

The whole "reality" argument is non existant. I flip through the program guide for CN several times a week and I never see any live action shows except "Destroy Build Destroy" and Dude What Would Happen? Which aren't even reality shows but Mythbusters esque shows. They already cancelled 6teen and I believe they're cancelling Total Drama.

I mean seriously, if you haven't seen Regular Show yet I suggest you go do that.

EDIT: Judging by this long winded Yahoo Answers anwer,

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100925155151AAjZG87

the president of Cartoon Network who forced the cancellation of Toonami and the short lived reality block was fired. This could mean good things.

I've had this conversation with a few friends when we'd go back and see some of the stuff they were putting on there and I was mortified when I heard they took away Toonami. I doubt it's worse than Nick, which has only had about five worthwhile shows in its entire existance. But, here's a thought:

There was an episode of Ed Edd and Eddy that was completely concerned with them trying to get a stash of porno magazines. You'll never see that on a network like CN again. Standards have changed too much. I'm just happy that I was a kid durning a time when cartoons could be weird, violent, creepy and downright inapropriate so long as they were subtle. It just won't happen anymore.

Hopefully, the return of Toonami and TOM would be really cool, and maybe if they 100% ditched live-action shows(besides the ones on Adult Swim), they could get Craig McCracken to return and make some cartoon gold.

its pretty innappropriate for a kids show. They show characters drinking, use some language on it, and alot of innuendo. Best cartoon on TV right now.

The only good show on CN now in days is Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The only problem is the run time (for each episode) is too short. Even Liam Neeson reprised his role as Qui-Gon Jinn on TCW.

Robot Chicken is okay, I guess.

Adult Swim is its own separate entity, having nothing to do with CN. . It's literally classified as a different network in terms of insurance and bonds.

I'm tired of everyone complaining about modern cartoons. If anything, modern cartoons are the same as the old cartoons. Networks just need to cater to whatever is popular now. Shows tend to get cancelled as they age, like all those cartoons listed. Just move on with your lives; do you really care about cartoons anymore?

No, it just seems that way. I remember when CN exclusive shows were refered to as Cartoon Cartoons, but they got rid of that and since then much hasn't changed. Also the What-A-Cartoon show was full of Cartonn Cartoonpilots, that's were all of the originalscame from. Before the cartoon cartoon implementation cartoon network was nothing but the W.C.S and old re-runs from basic television networks. Many of the old Cartoon cartoons just sucked. Their originals change but the network is far better than what it use to be about Twenty years ago. 1992 through about 96-98 was BS. Some with in that time they began with Dexter's Lab, The Power Puff Girls and Johnny Bravo. Soon they added Ed,Edd & Edy as well as Courage. And so on.

I agree that they have been taking on too many current shows from other studios and networks. But I don't watch that often anymore. But other than that it's not much different.
