In music, would you consider yourself genre-neutral?

In a sense, you can listen to many genres that are very different from each other? I think I am because I like some rap, almost all of rock, (the harder it gets the less I tend to like it though) but I absolutely abhor country or bands that have annoying girly/whiny voices.

But I can listen to anywhere from Coldplay to Fort Minor to Blink 182.

Very, I can jump from Rap, to Rock, to Electronic, to Pop easily.

I listen to everything from country,electronic, rock, rap, classical and everything in between. Im a fan of music and thats just about everything.

I'm very neutral... my music library is labeled as follows:

Oldies, Classical, Pop, Pop Princess, Alternative, Alternative Princess, Rock, Power Rock and Ballads, Country, Themes, Jpop, Latin Spice, Flip Music, Rap, HipHop, R&B, 70's & 80's, Disco, Techno, Other

note: the Princess folders are the ones that are female only, and themes are soundtracks, others are those randy music I find online

Truth is, you're not necessarily an open-minded listener if all you listen to is various forms of popular Western music. Rap, rock, metal, pop, country, jazz, techno, electronic dance... they all share a number of fundamental similarities, ranging from motivic repetition and simple metrical pulse to general formal layout. This is why I don't care for popular music. It is the fundamental similarities that I don't respond to, not the individual genres themselves.

As for the question, I am most certainly not genre-neutral. There's an awful lot of music that I have heard but will almost certainly never like. I couldn't have said that with any surety as a youngster, but at this point in my life, my musical preferences are very clearly defined, and suffice it to say that there isn't a whole lot of music in the world that ascribes to those preferences. There is, however, more than enough to keep me busy for several life times.

I don't like rap at all, but anyone who claims it is not music does not understand the definition of music.
