In "Super 8" do you think the monster/alien/whatever will be shown?

Before I saw J.J.'s Cloverfield I had heard that the monster would never be shown, but I was surprised when it was shown as often as it was. So far, in none of the previews for his new Super 8 the same feat of his furtive, wrapped nature was evident as the monster--or whatever had broken out of the train--was still kept completely unseen. Do any of you think the inhuman life form will be shown in the film? I feel that it should be because I'm sure the audience would feel ripped off and disappointed if it's never actually shown in the entire film.

I think the twist for Super 8 is that it's going to be a reimagining of E.T.

i would guess that they would show it midway through the attack, similar to the way it was in Cloverfield.

It wasn't midway, the monster was shown relatively early in the film when it attacked the bridge, and shortly after when an aerial view of it is shown on a breaking news report. I take it that Super 8 will take a similar Jaws approach.

In one of the trailers (the newest one I think) they are holding something like a rock that suddenly zips out of their hands really fast and out the window or something, maybe that's all it is, a little pepple that can fly really fast.

Probably, I think it should be shown rarely though, therefore everytime it appears on screen, tension sort of rises. Like the aliens in Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

Yes, but not in trailers.

Monster movie advertisers have learned it's best to keep the monster a surprise to build curiosity to go.

Yeah this. Much more effective to scare people with the thought of the unknown. But this is a Hollywood film. Given how people cried about not seeing the aliens in Monsters (unfairly), they'll probably show it.

This. They will reveal it gradually and at the end of the movie, you'll see it 75% clear.

You'll eventually see the monster, but "when" is the mystery.

You see them briefly but the movie is a lot more subtle than throwing aliens at you. Leave your assault rifle at home cowboy!

Why does JJ Abrams keep doing the same thing and we keep failing for it? lol. The only thing that has me confused as to what it is is when the guy in the store is dragged through an aisle. It didnt seem like he was a bad guy for that half a second so it makes the thing the monster thing isnt really nice or maybe there are 2 of them and just 1 is bad or something.

To show or not to show.... In Jaws Spielberg fully intended to show the shark more than he did but it kept malfunctioning so he was forced to infer the danger instead. I think if the effects are good and they're used in context with the story, (like in Cloverfield) then there won't be a problem. It doesn't become an M night Shyamalan disaster just by showing the Alien... if it is an Alien. Super 8 reminds me of "The Mist" a little bit... REALLY can't wait.

It's looks like a "boy and his dog" type of movie, exactly like ET and Iron Giant, they have to show the alien

Whenever they have some special preview on TV, or a new trailer online i really don't care to watch it unless they show the alien thing. It's the only part of themovie I want to know about at this point.

I hope so. It would be nice if it turned out like Signs. I was freaking creeped out when I saw the alien cross the alleyway.

Got to see an early preview last night. Well worth it. Even though I love my out-of-this-world hero flicks it's really nice to get back-to-basics in terms of story. No super heroes, just a bunch of kids rallying against something bigger than themselves. Elle Fanning was a standout for me. It's rocking a respectable 92% on Rotten Tomatoes so far.

I dont know why some are saying that it doesnt show the monster in Monsters. It really DOES but it takes a long time for them to show it. They must have watched part of the movie, got tired of waiting to see it and stopped watching. I watched ALL of this movie and it REALLY DOES show it. It is closer to the end before it shows the whole thing. Small SPOILER BELOW about the end, so stop reading if you dont want to know anything else. It even shows 2 of them at the end so I dont know why some are saying it never shows it, it just takes forever, more close to the end.

I think it will show it, and I really don't think it will be E.T. To be honest, I don't really want it to be. But....it could be....

*sarcasm

The fact that whatever it was fit inside the train car ruined that. Would have been awesome though.
