I assume that I lose my university course, which would be a shame, and that I start from exactly where I am standing now at about 9am.
The first day I would walk to my nearest town and beg for money, hopefully around $10. With that $10 I would buy a loaf of bread, bottle of water, jar of Vegimite, and a pack of disposable knives, which will last me the day. I would then go to the bank and set up a savings account, followed by going to Centrelink and getting the Newstart Allowance. I would then walk to the next town over and go to the TAFE, where I would enrol in a training course. I would then go to the local St Vinnies and get a couple of blankets. I would spend any free time in the library, and then sleep on a park bench.
The next week would be a bit rough. I would have to rely on handouts from St Vinnies for food, though I would attend classes where possible. Basically I would spend all of my time in the library studying outside of class and sleep.
Once I get my first payment of $475 from the government, I will be able to get ahead. I would buy myself one decent meal as a treat, a cheap mobile phone for contact, and a printing card at the library to print off a couple of resumes. I would walk into every business in the area, asking them for a job. I would save everything else, still go to class, still get meal money of St Vinnies, and still sleep on a park bench.
After a month of recieving my government payments I will have enough money for an appartment bond. I would then apply for Rental Assist from Centrelink, adding me about $150 a fortnight. That'll give me about $625 a fortnight from the government, $450 of which will go to rent and the rest will be food and buying things for the apartment.
From there I would gradually build up my assets. Assuming I have jobs paying about $300 a week, and government payments of $300 a fortnight, I would have a mattres, fridge, microwave, toaster, table and chairs within a month of getting the appartment.Over the next six months I would get a motorbike license and a second hand bike. I would then be able to search for more jobs out of the area, and hopefully get perminant part-time work whilst still studying at TAFE.
