My method is terrible - I'd fall in love at the drop of a hat. Get completely infatuated with somebody and think about them all the time. I'm very lucky I just happened to run into a great girl a long time ago and marry her. Before that my stupid ways brought me nothing but suffering.
You feel like your heart is beating out of your chest whenever your around them, you feel nervous and excited. Watch out though because all those awesome feelings can get crushed like nothing.

Well first you totally ignore that the person treats you like total **** Oh, and they take as much as you can give even when a hobo can tell you are doing without. Or did you mean how do you know when you're loved?
My view on this is a bit cynical (though arguably realist). The whole idea of unconditional "love" is a farce. People feel desire for others because it poses a potential benefit to them. A lot of guys "love" sexy girls with pretty faces and women find it easy to "love" a guy with a high-paying job and a big house.
For the most part, I can only intuit that I'm in love. However, I associate that cozy feeling in the chest and strong altruistic motives with love as well.
