Poor guy. And 21 years for child molestation? That's quite a bit.scar-hawk
Yeah, imo the penalties for child sex crimes are a bit too steep. I'm not saying that we should let them off easy, but when you look at it from an economic perspective it would really just be better to kill the kid after you're done molesting them since that way you "only" get convicted of murder which wouldn't carry much more of a prison sentence and when you get out you're a free man. No lists your name will appear on for the rest of your life, you don't have to stay away from parks, schools, etc., and in a ****ed up way murderers are given some respect in society (it's cool) whereas a child molester is at the bottom of the barrel.
Again, I'm not suggesting that we let rapists and child molesters off with a light sentence, they're very serious crimes. I'm just saying that it's absolutely stupid when any crime gets you a harsher sentence than murder (which is, imo, the ultimate crime).
Anyway, I hate hearing stories like this where someone spends half their adult life in prison for something they didn't do. There really needs to be checks in place for this sort of thing. I'm thinking something like if a person is found innocent after being sentenced they should get a minimum of $50,000 for every year spent in jail. That would make the state thing twice before encouraging their prosecutors to get guilty verdicts at any cost. Or better yet, make it so that any prosecutor found to have knowingly misled a jury be locked away for a long time (ideally they should get the same exact sentence the person they framed got).
