I'm about to finish "A Dance with Dragons" and I was wondering what to read (within fantasy literature, I'm reading other books from other genres) until "Winds of Winter" is published. I was thinking of "The Mistborn Trilogy" by Brian Saunderson (he was selected to finish Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series). I heard those books were amazing, but I'm open to suggestions. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson. It moves really quick, and it's not as character involved as Song of Ice and Fire, but it's really good fantasy with a great magic system and amazing world building.

Malazan is a good choice but not for everyone. Erikson doesn't really give a **** if you have no idea what's going on.

I picked up Malazan Book of the Fallen waiting for Winds of Winter as an attempt tojump into fantasy books. Really great series, can be a hard read at times ( for me at least). Different from ASoIaF though in a bunch of ways. Highly recommended if you have time to kill since the main series is 10 books long with many other prequels and side story books that are out and also still being written.

Yeah, I kinda like that. Makes me take more time with the book and also makes it better for second read throughs. I noticed with Song of Ice and Fire I'd phase out for a page or two and it didn't really matter much. Tons of sh*t can happen in a page of Erikson's books.
