So I was lurking around the forum, and of course ran into the bi-daily religion/politics cluster@$%k. As anyone who has been on OT for more than a week can attest, these threads are filled with sometimes hundreds of posts that seem to be nothing more than the same arguments copy/pasted from yesterday's thread. I guess what I'm trying to say is, has anyone actually changed their opinion on something or anything due to an online discussion?

if someone in the course of an internet argument changes their position, the internet will implode upon itself.

Okay, I'll have to admit that not that many people copy arguments verbatim. What I should have said is that the same general points are made in most threads with very little in the way of results.

My gosh just because you don't like the threads doesn't mean others don't! Why are you being so one sided? Let people do what they want, why should you have a say!?

I've never copy/pasted my posts......

seriously though, i havnt changed my opinion much on anything because of an internet forum, and i just stay out of religion threads altogether seeing as i know posting my opinion would basically do nothing. I do read the 'help with girl' threads for a bit of fun sometimes, but thats it.

When its the same thing like, "Do you believe in God?" Or "Do you think religion is real?" Why should my answer change?

It could go from No to Nope... But nothing more.

How exactly do you define *strong* atheist? And for that matter what made you change your decision (not that it's that big of a change).

I used to think humanity was on the road to progress.

Now: Not so much.

You have a point there. People just don't want to listen to each other, not a bit. Makes the whole discussion thingy rubbish. What's so hard about being open minded? But that's just my opinion.

I might have learned a thing or two during my time in OT... but when it comes to religion and politics, nothing has changed since I came here.

It has actually caused me to be more open-minded and open to other opinions and beliefs. Not that I agree with those beliefs but I can better understand why they hold those specific beliefs.
