That's actually a pretty good read.
Interesting. So trolls are literally psychopaths....
Not all of them, but the more dedicated ones yea and the ones that make fun of people who recently died I bet.
Anyone who gets off on making other people miserable is a mental douchebag, I didn't need a study to tell you that.
If trolling makes a person miserable, than I'd say that said person is the mental douchebag. With their delicate sensibilities and hurt feelings.

You should try and be a better human. What do you do to make this world a better place during your short time here? Anything? Or do you just live to hunt down these people like a shark smells blood so you can entertain yourself by making them feel bad? Or perhaps it is to bolster your low self-esteem you have outside of the internet? Maybe in the real world you are an unsuccessful nobody that will never amount to anything in life, yet here you are a God. Could that be it? Nah, you would never admit to it if it were the case. But damn it makes me smile to imagine it.
Meh, I haven't reached my goals in life but I wouldn't consider myself unsuccessful. My wife and I make a comfortable living right now but I'm not doing what I'd want to spend the rest of my life doing. I feel like I'm playing my cards right though. I just got out of the military and I'm using my GI Bill to go to school full time while working part time. My wife is a manager at a female clothing store. She has a bachelors degree but hasn't put it to any real use yet.
What about you? What's going on in your life?

Well this complicates things, now I have to respect you. I am career military, used to grunt but now I am intel. Carry on brother, just try and not be too much of a dick;)
Excellent. I enlisted when I was 23 and didn't have the intention of staying in past 4 years. Now that I'm out, after college, I'm considering becoming reservist for another branch so that I can secure another retirement.
Not only is your membership date my birthday, but your avatar was my job's logo/icon/mascot, etc.
@reaper4278: Roger dodger. I'll let you know when I have some questions.
Also, I feel that our internet personalities are just a projection of our imaginations. It's not entirely who we are in the real world.
Which is why I don't get upset over trolls.
Just like we find comic relief when Wile E. Coyote has a misfire with his Acme rocket and blows himself up, people find comedy in the torment of other internet personalities.
I hope I don't derail this too much, but if anyone has ever played MOBAs (League of Legends, etc), then you would know that trolls run rampant in these games.
My question is - do these games breed trolls, or are trolls attracted to these games? Thoughts?

a faceless medium, such as the internet, allows douchebag people and unstable minds to lash out with very little in the way of consequences. Even if you post a picture of your face and say your name, you're still a 'nobody', and can run rampant with little fear.
Well trolls are generally young, and youths tend to display all those personality disorders. As we mature we generally outgrow said traits simply due to a having a more reasonable and nuanced opinion based on experience.
@BeardMaster:
You don't "outgrow" mental illness. You should be more sensitive towards the trolls, pity them even.

I would say that example is a very accurate image on the subject.
To add I also think the lack of "Person to Person" interaction essentially has them believe that the picture or even Forum post isn't a real person and therefor they don't risk to see just what their words do to them nor the retaliation they'd likely recieve if they had told the same thing to the person if face to face. Because the majority if put in a room together, would behave completely different from how they would in the same Thread or Game together.
Could some be mistaking justified revenge as trolling? Like when some of the regulars in a forum pounce on you for a different political opinion and no one else comes to your defense so then you embark on a path of getting back at them by making annoying posts. That's not necessarily trolling unless it goes to far.

If the ones who died are not famous I can understand that. But with famous people maybe it's tolerated to some degree. I'm not defending trolls, I just saying more than a few of us may have chimed in with a little joke about someone famous who died recently because other respected members of a forum where already doing so.

You're all psychos.
@wis3boi: They're way too passionate about their system of choice. Of course some are just plain weird.
