I've got two job interviews coming up and I've never been very good at them.

Do my fellow GameSpoters have any tips?

Tell them what they want to hear....Prinkle in some truths and some exxaggerations (nothing too big)and you'll seem like a competent person.

How ironic, I just had my very first job interview today. Everything was swell, and I got hired. :D

Just rub cake on your interviewer. Always works :)

And besides... I thought the cake was a lie?

I really had to dust that one off.

How is that ironic? On topic, wear a suit, give a good handshake and memorize the name of the interviewer. Highlight your experiences that are relevant to the jobs and you'll do fine. DO NOT FORGET TO WEAT THE PANTS! :P

In my line of work scrubs are equal to a suit, but I've picked my fanciest ones. ;)

And I have not idea what you're telling me to do to my pants, but I'll keep that in mind.
Kind of a deal breaker if you come half dressed.
Dress well, speak loudly and clearly, give a solid handshake, be outgoing and friendly, practice the answers to routine questions beforehand (e.g., why would you be suitable for this job?), remember the name of the interviewer, know basic facts about the company you're interviewing for, arrive early, ask questions to show you're interested, come prepared (bring a copy of a resume, pen/paper, etc) and so on. The more interviews you have the better you'll get--so don't worry even if it doesn't work out this time. Relax and good luck!

How is that ironic?

chathuranga
Nobody knows what ironic means anymore. They substitute it for 'unlucky situation' or 'coincidence', as in this case. Don't waste your time trying to explain it to people, it's a lost cause. Alanis Morrissette effectively ****ed that word and its' meaning completely. But back to the thread, TC you should look up questions interviewers ask and have answers prepared, like if they ask you three words to describe yourself. Find something genuine to answer with. Being prepared saves you from ending up frazzled.

Mini-skirts

doesn't matter if you're male or female. A caring boss likes a good pair.

Wow I am fresh in this topic. I had 2 interviews last week, 1 follow-up interview today and then offered a job. It is important to dress for the occasion! Next when they ask questions about your work ethic or experience, make sure you answer the questions thoroughly! Many times they will ask things like "Talk about a time you met opposition in the work place. How did you react? What was the outcome?" Make sure you answer EVERY question. They are testing your listening skills. Also it is ok to appear confident in yourself. Those are the things I stressed when preparing for the interviewing process. Goodluck!!

Look them in the eye, give a firm handshake, don't talk yourself up to be better than you are, be straightforward. If the individual seems the receptive type, be funny. People are more inclined to remember someone that they enjoyed interviewing than someone that was just qualified.

This sounds very obvious but relax ,be confident and come prepared . I completely messed up my firs job interview at Best Buy due to how nervous i was . I was a mumbling idiot and when they asked me what a couple of my strengths were it took me a while to answer ..... So it gave them a very negative light on me .

Don't over think it. They just want to get to know you to see how you will fit in. Tell them what they want to hear while at the same time don't sound like a suck up desperately trying to land a job. Don't say, "I really really need this job, please god GIVE ME THIS JOB!". Also sit up straight and keep eye contact when you're both talking. I know it can be difficult, but do it.

I don't know if I'm particularly good at interviews...however I have been offered a job (and an interesting story, but once I was even offered a job at 2 places in one interview) at every place I have ever tried.

I try to first of all stay calm. Secondly, I make good eye contact and firm physical gestures (handshakes). Thirdly, I go over my resume many times to make it sound really good. Lastly, I tell them what they want to hear in an articulate way (related to remaining calm). It seems to work for me.
