Introduction thread?

Now either I'm blind, or just can't find it, why is there no intruction thread here? I'm new and I like this site so far, but also, are there any notification pop ups on threads we've replied to, and if anyone else replies to that same thread we can be notified? That would be a really nice feature on this site..

The current notification system is kinda silly imo.
