Waste of money. It's basically a netbook with a restrictive OS and no keyboard. At best, it is an oversized, overpriced iPod Touch.

its not. thats the whole point. its just bigger.. its not designed to fit in your pocket. its just a more powerful touch/iphone with a bigger screen. personally i don't see that as bad thing. and clearly neither do the millions of people buying them

Screw the poor OS, price, lack of imagination, redundantcy and awful name, if it can fit in a manilla envelope, I want it! (Yay, references!)

Seems to me Apple have made a solution to a problem that never existed with the ipad. Its a case of apple milking the many millions of apple diehard fans that will by anything with an apple badge stuck to it whether or not its actually a good or usefull piece of kit.

i would have bought an ipad if: 1. it could support multi tasking. 2. it has usb ports and all the ports that any technology these days need. 3. flash content. optional anyway if it can run well on html5. 4. wacom penabled technology = having pressure sensitivity of 2048 levels, equal to that of the intuos4. 5. stylus. what's the big idea of calling it a tablet when it should have a stylus? 6. wide screen enabled? for $500, it should have all of these. then it's a good to buy.

Not for my use but it suits it's purpose of showing the Apple logo very well, really that's all it needed to do, it didn't even have to work and people would still buy it.

I just love everything that mocks Apple and its silly iPad.

Anyway, while I do not like it I did see some great examples on where an iPad really fit in. Can't remember any of these examples but they totally made sense.

so why would you choose to ignore some one because of an electronic device they purchased. seems arrogant, self righteous and petty to me. also surely EA's online pass does not extort there customers as they have nothing else to buy on top of the game. its only people buying the game used that have to buy the online pass. and people who buy their games used are not EA's customers.

It's cool, and it's decent for sitting around and browsing the internet on the couch without having to go boot up your PC. But for that you're paying a truly insane amount of money, and at the end of the day, it's simply not worth it. Like the video GhoX posted, Apple seem to focus on making products aimed at killing time on the internet rather than anything much deeper than that. That's an awful lot of money for a cool toy.

Just got one in the other day, bought it mainly for Work because me and one other guy are the only Mac centric people so we have to support everyone that has an Apple device.

So far it is pretty decent for what I think it was designed for which is to entertain and not so much for business use although it does have some Office suites available to the device. Yes it is the same thing thing as the iphone/ipod touch but I think that was the idea because it got people away from using the smaller devices to just browse the web, social networking and playing games on it.

You can hook USB devices up to it with the USB dongle that Apple has that is supposed to be used for cameras but right now at my office desk I have a Mac G5 keyboard attached to it and it lets me control the volume and screen brightness of the device. I'm assuming it can take a USB hub so in theory you could have a keyboard, USB headset and your iphone or whatever else attached to it.

Time will only tell what is going to happen to this device, it just came out and hasn't received a single update so I'm sure Apple has some tricks up their sleeves on making this device do more in the future. If all else fails just apply the JB and you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Tablets will kill netbooks... and then laptops. Whether you like it or not, it's what the guys who actually make the things believe. When Jobs has one, Gates was using one years ago, and Google is working on one... yeah they're coming. I fell like I have to defend this thing daily in OT. Yes, it's a bigger iTouch, but if I gave you the option between a 4 inch TV and a 64 inch TV which one are you taking? But oh, it's the same thing only bigger! The size itself is seriously underestimated. It doesn't have a keyboard? Uh, yeah it does.

I don't think its a waste of money or crap. It definitely isn't innovative. I feel like if you want an ebook you could get an iPad and do other things as well. Theres a use.

When I was in High School it was hand writing recognising Palmtops that would dominate the market. Then it was Zip Drives and Sony Minidiscs that were going to replace CDs. No-one can predict what is going to be the next big thing in technology and pushing a lot of money isn't a guaranteed win; such as the big push towards 3D TVs. As for the TV analogy, that would only work if you had a separate product that did more than both 4" and 64" TVs and for cheaper...like a monitor that dispensed bacon.

The whole concept of tablets is what gets me.. I can't see a situation where a device of such size could be considered convenient to use in such a shape. The iPad in particular falls down for me because it lacks features which define a standard media device from a portable computer. It's really no different to an iPod Touch, because they've failed to implement PC (or Mac) style features including an open directory system, open app system, ability to connect USB devices, display output and so on.

Those may have made the iPad actually worth it, but instead they've released a larger Touch and branded it as something else. The cheapest model is £429 ($630); shocking considering what it is.

Rather have a regular laptop than that, especially with the LACK of features. Apple's minimalist movement is not appealing. I've never had a preference either way to mac or pc or linux, but they're all starting to get on my nerves.

After a simple Google search I found this which pretty much says "buy a netbook", though even I would call a bias source on that. :P And no, I never said the iPod Touch (I refuse to call it an iTouch) can do more. Since the iPad has 3G in some models, I'd say it can do more just on those grounds alone. I'm not saying the iPad is a bad product. Just a poor investment.

No they won't. Tablets have been around for year under various names and a large part of their target market has always hated them, there's always going to be a market for devices with physical buttons.

And yet why haven't I seen one side-by-side comparrison where a guy shows an iPad and a netbook and says, "Buy the netbook, it's better." ? I see people throwing out specs, but still not one person that has used an iPad for a few days and said, "I would rather have a netbook."

EDIT: Oh, and you're saying that the iTouch has more features? That wasn't a netbook v iPad comparrison that was an iTouch v iPad comparrison.

terrible comparison, id prefer a big tv so i can see things more clearly and have other people watching it. i wouldnt have a giant psp if they made one. the tv thing was such a crap analogy

Looks like an oversized iPod Touch if you ask me.

That's the point....some people don't like reading books or playing games or doing others things on the ipod touch. A lot of people love the idea of a bigger ipod touch....

also surely EA's online pass does not extort there customers as they have nothing else to buy on top of the game. its only people buying the game used that have to buy the online pass. and people who buy their games used are not EA's customers.

I could obliterate your argument, but this isn't the board for it, come to general games discussion if you want to debate EA's extortionist and anti-first sale doctrine acts. As per "self righteous and petty" perhaps, but I really don't feel like knowing anyone who would waste such a large amount of money on such a pointless device.
