I don't get the iPad at all. It doesn't do anything I do on acomputerwell. I like to watch movies and YouTube, participate in forums, and play games (and by games, I mean Europa Universalis, not solitaire). The iPad doesn't do any of that. Yeah, I can watch YouTube on iPad, but there are no windows, so I can't watch YouTube and browse GameSpot, like I am now. I can't do forums on it, as the idea of typing even this short post on an iPad is terrifying. Oh, and the iPad sucks for games. I can get Flash games for free on my PC, where I don't need to pay $2.95 for each one of them.
EDIT:
Those may have made the iPad actually worth it, but instead they've released a larger Touch and branded it as something else. The cheapest model is £429 ($630); shocking considering what it is.

Oh, this too. It's absurdly expensive. I don't get these things. You can't put them in your pocket, which means you're gonna need a briefcase or backpack to carry them around. If you're going to do that, why not just get a laptop?
I will be waiting for solidruss' review of the iPad when he finally receives the hardware.
In russ I trust.

Still hasn't shipped from Apple, it has a ship date of the 8th with delivery of the 11th. I went to an Apple store and "reserved" one last Friday when I heard rumors the stores are getting them faster. If that one arrives before the 8th I'll cancel my online order.
As far as opinions on the iPad, it's just like every other new Apple product out there. Hater gonna hate and lovers will love.
If you're looking for a portable device to browse the web, read books, stream video and play a few games, the iPad is an amazing device. No netbook in this price range will give you the same size screen and ability like the iPad will. Want everything a fully functional laptop does? Go somewhere else.

And that is exactly what the iPad is designed for which is to do things like streaming movies, email, web browsing or play some games. I keep telling people that is the point of the device which is a larger touchscreen multimedia device playing the iphone version of Civ on there sucks but the ipad version is awesome with the larger screen, granted it would be sweet if it has business support with it but it doesn't.
I've only had mine about 24hrs or so and I was skeptical at first with it but after actually sitting down and messing with it the thing kind of grows on you. I bought mine for basically to start writing up documentation on how to support it for my IT department but now I don't think I'll need to turn my netbook or even my Macbook Pro on if I need to do email or whatever. I ended up playing the ipad version of Civ Revolution and it's awesome with the larger screen, hell just reading on it it is more awesome then my iphone.
Good luck on getting yours, I ordered mine on May 17th and got it June 2nd, even checked 4 Best Buys ( 1 in Indiana and 3 in Michigan) even went to the Apple Store there in Ann Arbor and they were all out.

That's pretty much what everyone that owns one is saying, I was sold on it when I listened to Leo Laporte talk about it on one of his podcasts. I've been in the market to get a new laptop and this will work out very well for me on trips and whatnot:)
I wouldn't mind having an iPad although I prefer a netbook myself.
I still don't see why people can have a hatred for a gadget, any gadget.
Looking at Apple's prices, they manage to be more expensive with a student discount than Dell computers without a student discount. It baffles me. The iPad seems to be no different.

Many people hate Apple products because of the proprietary hardware and closed OS. To me, it is quite understandable to have a fear for that type of business model becoming popular.I have an ipod touch and a 13" laptop, why would I need an ipad?mindstormIt fits the space between the iPod touch and the laptop that you didn't know needed filled.
This video sums it up really: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BnLbv6QYcA On the other hand, I have not seen a single person using Ipad at all in public.GhoXI have seen two people myself. They must have a lot of money to burn.

I suppose that may be a problem for some. But for many, it's no different than owning a console. I've owned and liked those too even though I consider myself a hardcore PC user/gamer.
We went to the Apple Store in Syracuse recently. The iPad section was jampacked with people trying out the iPad.
We thought about buying an iPad. But then for its price, we can buy two ASUS eeePC (n270-powered), one for me and one for the kid. We're still debating that part up to now.
I have seen two people myself. They must have a lot of money to burn.As a daily user of the DC Metro, I thought I'd start seeing them as soon as they came out, like with iPhones. However, strangely, I have yet to see one.Hexagon_777

I don't really like consoles either :PIts a failure yet people are buying it. Wow I love how that makes soooo much sense :).The ipad is a failure. Yet people still buy it because it has an apple logo plastered on the back.

How fast does it run when you have multiple applications open?i think its cool, played with one at the apple store and was really taken back by how fast and smooth it operated. Everybody that says it is under powered are wrong.

do any of the people hating on the ipad actually have one? i do and its great...really useful for hundreds of things and much more convenient than a laptop that costs 2.5k. its much more than an over sized ipod and you are all just passing judgements because you read some reviews and believe you are a rebel for hating on whats popular. if it sucked so hard than it probably wouldn't be so high selling and well reviewed by those who actually have one.
I dislike the target audience as much or more than i do the product itself. The iPad was pathetic enough on its own, the kind of people who buy them make it even worse.

A laptop without a keyboard, a tablet PC without handwriting capability, a mobile PC that can't run two things at once, or just a giant iPhone that can't call anyone. I can't work out what the heck it is, but it sure costs a lot of money.Bourbons3I like this post and have conveyed this by quoting it and saying that I like it.

Macs with their 5.27% market share are hardly popular compared to Windows PCs but they still get hated on as well. It has little to do with popularity and more to do with the price/value relationship that is involved. What's more, you said that the iPad is more convenient than a laptop that costs 2, 500 in presumably whatever high value currency. I doubt it, considering how an iPad is way behind a €500 laptop in terms of functionality.

I agree. I like the way Bourbon put that as well. The iPad is definitely not for Palantas. To put away the comments of naysayers, that the iPad's apparently in the category of cocaine or gay sex--that I shouldn't knock it until I try it--a friend of mine left me his iPad for a couple days to put apps on it for him. I have used an iPad, and I can't fathom what I'd want it for.
Junk. I would take my $500 laptop that has 4 usb ports,HDMI port, DVD drive, 320 GB hardrive, 4GB ram and a card reader over an iPad any day.
