Ipod memory issues

I have a 4 gig 3rd gen ipod nano. i just saw online that it should hold 1,000 songs. my ipod is full at 298 songs, with no videos or nothing else. im really mad cause its such crap that they lie about this. does anyone know how i could fix this or has anyone else have the same problem as me?

and dont tell me ipods suck casue thats irevalvent

A song is considered 4 minutes long.

That depends on the bitrate and length of each song. It happens to everyone. You'll always have much less than the advertised number.

Look at the size of each song, if they're all 15-20 MB then you'll know why.

thats very strange, i can store more songs on my 1 gig then that, the problem is probably the size of the songs, not the ipod, or you copied stuff directly to your ipod's hard drive

i just organized my library and the bit rate stuff was right. half way down its all in the 120s then it jumps to about 800 and goes all the way up to 1000+.the higher ones are songs ive gotten off of cds. would it help if i redownloaded them
