On a 1996 Toyota Tacoma?
It's only had 2 owners and I've taken a look at it and everything seems to be running on great on it.
It has 38 Inch rims and a great stereo system.
All I have to do is give him my broken 1965 plymouth Valiant.

200,000 miles on any car is excessive imo.

200k is pushing it but the age is another concern. Tacomas are great trucks though.

Well that's the thing is I don't have a automobile that's good for what I need.
I have a 1965 Plymouth Valiant that is broken down and doesn't run.
I need this truck so I can move down to a city 128 miles away and go to School.
Is it a good trade?

A broken plymouth for a running tacoma seems like a good deal.

The seller is willing to do an even swap?

Yeah, he said he restores old cars and wanted this as another project.
So he's towing his truck up here (so it doesn't add to the miles) than towing my car down to where he lives.
He is replacing the fuel inejctors for me for free and that was the only thing that was wrong with it.

I don't know man. Seems like he's desperate to dump it. Be sure to fully check it out and test drive it.

As soon as I read "he's towing his truck up here," my this-is-a-huge-mistake-what-the-****-am-I-doing sense went off the chart.

Miles aside - how old is the engine and the rest of the parts? If he has worked on all of them or replaced them (complete engine overhaul!) then I wouldn't be too concerned about the miles.

yea, if it has been taken care of, 200k is about 2/3 of its life. Most Toyotas generally go for 250-300k miles; theyre very nice cars and trucks imo. I love Tacomas, personally.

What year is it? What engine does it have?

Also, if you are trading a broken car for a working one, that sounds like a helluva deal unless your broken car is A.) easily fixed, and B.) worth a bit of money

From my experience, Toyotas run forever. My first (and current) car is a 1998 Toyota Camry and It currently has 186,500 miles and its still going strong.

I'll ask my dad's VW with 450+k miles on it, lol

Honestly, 200k seems like a bit much for a '96. Now if it were from the 80's that would probably be more reasonable. My car is an '88 and only has about 163k miles.

200k on a 15 year old car is spot on.

Ahhh :P duh. Well then find out how old the engine is and the rest of the parts. High miles but new parts or a revamped engine should mean you're okay.

Find out when the timing belt, water pump, and all the wires were replaced and get a full record of maintenance.

Everything was replaced like 7 months ago.
It's the original engine and he is the second owner of the truck.
He bought it from his brother in-law.

Have they maintained full service records? If so, you can go over them and see if they have been keeping up with maintenance, and if they have been, you can be sure that the truck will be capable of easily another 200K miles. Toyota's go on forever... especially the trucks.
