Does anyone really have 16,000 songs or 80,000 photos that they need to access at any given moment?

Why do you think the iPod classic even exists?

The thing has 160Gb and it's still being made so that means people buy it.

Seems reasonable to me. There are surely people out there with 64GB of music.

And it also means there's plenty of space for videos and apps.

And then there's lossless compression, which takes up a buttload of space.

Same here. Obviously the usefulness depends on the person buying it. A casual radio listener isn't going to need 64 gigs, while someone really into lots of music may need more than that.

Collection file size doesn't really mean much. I'm at ~150GB with only 4k tracks.

Yep movies, tv shows aps, music videos. It adds up quick. Right now on my 16gb I only have 1 gb open. It's mainly bc of music video and apps.

Hell yes. I wouldn't even consider getting anything smaller than that TBH. Don't have that much music right now, but I got around 16 GB of music in the course of about a year and a half ~ two years, and parts of that were reeeealy slow points for buying music, and that most certainly is not going to be slowing down, I still have over 600 albums on my Amazon wishlist...plus you have to factor in movies/tv shows and apps...yeah, 64 GB is the absolute minimum I would want.:P

apps are hardly over 10mb.... anyway, for a person like me, who has the complete OSTs of many games (and games with GREAT soundtracks...like final fantasy series) and several great music...yes I could use one of those...because my 2gb sansa is running very short in space...I will probably be receiving my FF 1-9 OST the next week...and should I say thats a lot of space... But I personally dont use or like ipod touch/iphone as a music player...I would stick to a regular ipod...

My old 2 Gigs USB-pen style mp3 player no longer has the cover (for the USB port). It was literally flushed down the toilet  The player fell into the toiled just as I has flushed and the cover was slightly loose so it went away. The whole player was submerged for a moment but I was able to save it by pulling the earphone wire. I'm never taking a piss while listening to mp3 players ever again! This was a few years back, and the bastard STILL works perfectly :D

Now I have a phone with a memory card of just 1 Gb :( I may buy a new card though.

I have a 64 GB, used up 41 GB's (TV shows and Music) but admittedly, I could cut 10 GB's of music I don't listen to, and I honestly am not going to watch 30 episodes in a day (which consists of 25 of so GBs). 32 GB would work just fine for me, but I basically upgraded to a 64 GB for free.

Yea i know. Still its been though alot with me now. Its been dropped, thrown, lost and washed and its still around 6 years since i bought it :)

ahh I remember the first MP3 player I got...I got it when I was in 7th grade...a 512 mb extremely small QBOS mp3 player...then 1 year later by dad bought my sansa e250 of 2gb...I've drop it, its being stolen and recovered, water has fallen on it, the wheel doesnt work properly anymore, the earphones jack is a bit defectuos already, the screen is broken, the internal clock doesnt work anymore...but I still use it. even though I wll have to change it soon...because as i've said...im running very short on space...and for a person like me who must listen to music everyday in the morning and in the afternoon (the school bus takes like 2 hours to get from my house to school and viceversa) its getting pretty boring to always listen the same 400 songs...and the worst part is that out of those 400 songs I just listen at like 70...not like I wont listen the others, but there are just 70 favorites so far...

I have more than 3TB of music and videos so yes, 64GB is pretty necessary. It's also nowhere near enough. Thankfully I can stream most of my video content to my Touch over my wi-fi.

I have a 120 GB iPod. How many songs I have on it? Around 4k and 3 music videos. Do I need all that space right now? No. But.... will I have that space available for a later time? Yes. So.. I can put all the music I want on it and don't have to pick and select from an album... and I do not have to buy a bigger iPod every few years. :P

I have almost 50gb of music and have listened to almost everything except for a few new albums. I listen to music while i'm at my job and when i travel to and from school. Its very doable if you listen to music on a daily basis.

On the new one absolutely... You can record 720p video in the h.264 format... HD video is pretty large... Not to mention the videos, apps, and music... I don't even listen to music that much and I have over 10gb of music... So think about someone who listens to music often...
