I knew a woman who died in her sleep before the age of 50. Turned out she had some type of heart murmur and no one knew about it.

I assume same thing could happen to a cat.

My hypothesis is that in the medical world, anything concerning the heart is serious.

I don't understand why you'd consider a cat with a defect. It's like buying a tires that have a chance of blowing in a year or so. But if you buy some stuff for them, they might not.

I acutally had a heart murmur when I was young but it basically healed itself.

My vet found a heart mumur in my first puppy, he said 90% of the murmur's are harmless and don't affect the pet. The other 10%, however, will result in death. Unfortunately, my puppy was one of those 10% murmurs.

He said she could live for a year, and just randomly die. So we put her down, and found another. I didn't wanna be heartbroken afterwards.

Heart Murmurs aren't always a problem. It depends on the seriousness of it. All murmurs are is a "defective" heart beat, just a different sound than normal, which can be a result of many things. Valves not working properly, too much blood flowing, etc.

Depends what kind it is....but if medication is capable of fixing it then its obviously not a serious defect and it should be fine.

But even if there is a chance of it dying, if I was you id rather give it a home and have it be happy and then die, rather than having it sitting in a cage for the remainder of its lifetime just because of a defect which most people dont even know what it is.

Adopt it and make it happy if it's about to die. No one is going to want the kitty with a heart murmur.

I had a dog with a heart murmer, and she died at the age of 14. However, she also had vestibular syndrome (where there is an inflamation in the ear and they can't balance properly), so it was most likely that, as well as the combination of pills she was having for both the heart murmer and vestibular syndrome that did the damage.

yea a heart murmur is very serious. One of my cats died because of that. If i had not been on the other side of the world at the time, i would have prevented it.
