Given that President Obama is on the left (I would consider him to be far left in some cases) is America becoming more conservative, staying the same or becoming more liberal?

Given that more American's are becoming more accepting of same sex marriage isn't becoming more liberal (at least socially)?

What values would those be? And NASA's funding largely had to do with Cold War politics more than anything coming close to scientific discovery unfortunately.

You know at one point capatalism was considered a very liberal economic system? Now it's considered conservative. That's just how it goes.

I don't care. Not enough money for NASA regardless of why. Europe is even more disappointing.

More static I would say.

What I mean is niche faction in politics are becoming much bigger players(example Tea party movement)

In stead of a somewhat balanced conservative/liberal front we have dozens of strong micro factions within them that are now showing their face in the modern communication age.

Or in short, politics are becoming more divided.

Liberal, the world is infact. As we grow are intellect we become more liberal and less bigoted. More towards the greater good and the collective rather than hoarding loads of money.

Neither. There's no doubt that the American public is getting smarter in one way or another, but it's becoming more disconnected and having unrealistic expectations with both our government and its military.

Politics is irrelevant. The problem is we continue to elect leaders that promise all but deliver almost nothing, who introduce new laws but do not enforce them, not even older relevant laws. We want it all but don't want to pay for it all because of these "conservative" and "liberal" ideas.

Short answer, it's staying the same but on social issues, it's becoming somewhat more liberal but are susceptible to false information (perfect example: Prop 8 in California).

It's dumb. That's all that it is. America doesn't know how to be informed and vote with their heads. So no matter what label you stick on it, it means nothing. People are just plain stupid.

Social liberalism is only half of what it means to be a liberal. And if your talking about the world stage, being liberal could mean becoming more bigoted on a social stand point. Liberal only means progressive or different.

Definately more liberal. The liberal arts majors (very appropiately named) get a ton of liberal ideas beat into their heads during classes and a lot of television shows (Glee, Family Guy, etc) are doing the same. On that note, it's funny to think that the Simpsons was considered controversial 20 years ago. :P

More liberal overall when it comes to social issues with a lound vocal minority of far right wingers opposing the progression. Fiscally it seems to ebb and flow and imo is more cyclical than anything else.

Find oil in the Moon and everyone will be there in a heartbeat. That's the problem with today's societies everything revolves around money, if there's no money involved the venture is completely ignored or put in the background.

The moon has its own "oil". Just a few tons of He-3 would cover the earth's energy needs for a year. Problem is we don't have the technology to extract energy from He-3 yet... It will come in about 50 years though!!!

I totally agree.

Well I was too small to be remember anything with respect to the Simpson's being controversial 20 years ago. But I am surprised that a show like Simpson would even be considered to be controversial to begin with.

What would be considered controversial? Bart Simpson saying, "Eat my shorts". :P

Actually, yes, that was a big part of it. Bart was considered an unacceptably bad influence. The Simpsons and Married with Children earned Fox a poor reputation for quite a while - which they reveled in, of course :P

Definitely more liberal in the social areas, and all for very good reason. Gay rights, especially. It's about time! When the baby boomer generation dies out totally (as said before) It will get more liberal. On other issues besides social, I think it's pretty even.

It's hard to say, really. On the one hand, things like gay marriage and contraception have gained a lot more acceptance. On the other hand, social conservatism, especially in similar respects, is still alive and well.

It is becoming more liberal, as the proportion of people holding conservative values (especially social conservatism, probably the most insane, most harmful and most irrational set of ideologies ever to plague this world) dies out to be replaced by a generally more liberal youth. This demographic trend can be observed in just about every country in the world.

meh, he is an American progressive as set by FDR, big gov spending, big war, big welfare. as for the state i would like to think the people are moving to less restrictions, but on the old OT left right as the media paints it, yea, left on social, and confused on political/economic.

I'd say more progressive in general. It only appears to be getting more extreme to the right wing when you watch the mainstream media or listen to the Republican election. But on specific issues such as defense spending, marijuana, gay marraige, tax rates, Americans are becoming more progressive.

I'd say overall, more liberal... unfortunately. This has been going on for decades though, so I'm not going to blame Obama. The real problem is that nobody seems to really care about what's happening to America. Huge changes in how our government opperates are need badly. We basically have to go back to the drawing board (Constitution) and start over. Greed has ruined politics, which is ruining the country. The first two things I suggest would be setting term limits for all politicians, and replacing the tax code with something like the Fair Tax. No more loopholes, kickbacks, etc. I would give each elected position a two term limit, and that's it. This would do so much for how politicians work in regards to lobbyists. I would also suggest that it be made illegal for lobbyists to wine and dine politicians.

Consdering both of our political parties are moderate left, we are moving in a liberal direction.
