I certainly do not think so, to me, religions are just like opinions, people can choose what they want to believe, but I reserve the right to disagree and argue with it.

Having said that, its one think to argue, another thing to harass a specific person for their opinions/religions/political views.

Please (Peacefully!) tell me what you think.

No, it isn't, and I think harassing those with a different religion wouldn't be racism either, there's other types of discrimination.

TC got it exactly right. A person is not born into a religion, thus it is not "racism" so to say in bashing the religion. However, it is descrimination if you refuse service or something like that to someone due to thier religion, which I believe is illegal.

Criticizing religion isn't the same thing as harassing someone about their religion. Even then, religion =/= race.

A religion isn't a race, so no, it's not racism. But if you were to discriminate against a certain religion it'd be called something else. Although since people can make their own religion it's far more common. I.E alot of folk hate on scientology.

How can it be? A religion is a belief. It has nothing to do with skin color.

It is not racist at all. It's Mormonism and Islam that are the biggest culprits of intolerance of criticism. I can't tell you the amount of times I've been called a racist, islamophobe or anti-mormon for criticizing those religions. It makes me want to criticize them twice as harshly. :P

Discrimination/prejudice for either religion or race shouldn't be accepted obviously, but racism and criticism of religion are two completely different things.

I agree with most posts so far, I brought this up because of the situation in my home country, Norway, where criticizing religions (specifically Islam) is viewed pretty much like racism by a large number of people.

Religion is an idea, while race is a physical trait of a human being. It is perfectly natural to criticize ideas. it is not ok to criticize people because of their physical traits. The two things are so far apart that this should have been a no-brainer.

That's what I'm asking.

Rulers of feudal Japan claim to be descendants of deities. Emperors of China are the same. In Europe, royalty had the same thing going on. Pharaohs in Egypt, too. I just wonder if Jewish people, being a race, have historical links to their religion.

Do you understand?

That is no acception, I can become Jewish any time I want to and I won't be part of this so called "race", where do you have to be born to be an official Jew? Isreal is a multicultural holy land, Jerusulum is a city so if I said I was a pure Jew because I was born in Jerusulum is like me saying I am a pure Catholic because I was born in Vatacin City, but being Catholic is not considered being part of a religion, however, for some reason most people refer or even consider Jews as a seperate race of people. There was this one time when I brought this question of Jews not being a race with a friend of mine and he told me I was wrong and that I was stupid...some friend.

You can't be geneticly a Jew, you can be born into it but the only genetic link to Jews were the Jewish slaves in the Bible, but those people followed a different religion and were segregated for it so in the long run you can not be geneticly Jewish.

Segregated? So does that mean they ceased to exist? I read the story about Moses getting the Commandments and having vengeance on those who worshiped idols. What I want to know is what's up after that. Ain't those people Jews? Yeah, people change religions, but sometimes they change back. Genetics is what I'm really wondering about, though. ...Whatever.

You can be genetically Jewish, but that still doesn't mean that a harassing Jewish gene-Jew for his religion is racist. If you were harassing a Jewish gene-Jew for his religion and/or his race, that would be antisemitism. And even then just plain criticism still means nothing.

Racism has spanned to include people of a common heritage, and often that encompasses religion. In reality this would probably be more like bigotry than racism, but it's all just semantics because humans aren't actually different races scientifically speaking.

Also criticism isn't a negative things. Saying Christians are stupid = bad, asking for validation to the miracles performed by Jesus = good.

Isn't Israel a multicultural holy land that not only has Jewish people but Catholics and Muslums? The Jews as a race are from the same place as Muslums and any other Middle Eastern religious group.

The meaning of racism in the modern day has come to encompass bigotry against "cultural heritage", which often includes religion.
