Is English the most spoken language of the world ?

Waz up gamers ? So I was thinking is English the most spoken language in the world ? Since I am in the US English is to me the one and only superior language but could I be wrong ? Outside the US and in the world there could be another most popular or even more known. Does anyone know ? What other national languages are well known around the world ? What is your native language ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but roughly a 1/3 of the worlds population speak English, whilst Mandarin is spoken by roughly 9.4 trillion people. Quite impressive considering there's only 6 billion people on Earth. AliasUK

yeah i was under the impression 1/3 of the world speaks English, which will be because of the British empire. Im not sure really between mandarin and English :/ I think its possibly english though?

If you go by the amount of people who can speak the language English has the most amount of speakers. (1st and 2nd language)
