I'm afraid of something, but I feel like it shows I care, and it might actually be bad if I didn't care or wasn't afraid of it.

So, my question is, is it good to be afraid of something?

What do you think?

No clue, I doubt anyone here has felt 'real' fear anyways.. Like some guy kidnapping you and cutting your arm off, you would feel 'real' fear..

But.. I don't see how it's a postive thing, I find it entertaining.. But I don't see anything that could be generally positive because of it.

I don't want to run away from it.

It's more like 'anticipation' or 'apprehension.'

Fear is a natural reaction. You can let the emotion take over you and be crippled by it, or you can use it as a motivation to better yourself.

Yea, I have. :| But anyways, yes, it's human to have fear. It's just how you react to it that counts. You can't let a fear control you.

Yes, fear is a good thing. Fear is a defense. For example, many people fear certain animals like snakes, especially poisonous snakes. Poisonous snakes possess venom in their fangs which is deadly to humans. So when a human encounters a snake, their fear alerts them to stay away from it. Thus they don't get bitten. By fearing something, you avoid it. Obviously, by avoiding something potentially deadly, one saves their own life.

Eh, there's no such thing as 'real' fear. If you're scared of something, then you are, no fear is more real than another...

As long as it is rational and isn't debilitating/crippling then fear is a good thing as are all emotions.

When it's a genuine survival instinct it's good. When it's the kind of fear that gets instilled in you by misled parents or clergy, it's a bad thing. But all can be overcome in which case the experience of overcoming a fear is great.

Fear kept human beings alive this long... so yeah, it's a good thing.

Now if the fear is irrational... then it might be a different story. Irrational fears will only hinder you. For example, I have an irrational fear anytime I'm eating hambugers... especially fast food hamburgers. I'm always afraid some guy in black and white clothing is going to come up and steal my burger at any moment. As a result, I sometimes put mirrors in front of me pointing back, that way I can see behind me in case he is sneaking up.

I'm terrified of this guy
