Funk is an endless problem, but it is also a solution. You see, it was a solution for jam bands, which itself was the solution to jazz. The solution to funk must then be the next genre of music to redefine a lack of direction in music (so I suppose that there may be a number of solutions). Likewise, funk died for me the first time I saw RHCP in socks.
