I think he is slightly, dont get me wrong I think he is a great actor and it is a shame he died so young. But before the dark knight came out I didnt pay much attention to him aside from maybe Brokeback mountain. His acting in The Dark Knight was fantastic, but my favorite villian is still Rutger Hauer from the original version of The Hitcher and also Rutger hauer in Blade Runner was great because while he was a villian, he was still a complex character with lots of emotions.

The Joker however was pretty much just acted crazy and Anarchic, which to me was not as interesting as Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner. Heath Ledger was still great as the Joker, that I dont think can be denied.

He was a good actor, but i would have to say the dark knight is more overrated than heath, most people only saw that movie because of the publicity from heath

I honestly think, had he lived longer, he wouldn't have been. But as it stands, he did make some real turkeys.

Who cares?

He was great as the Joker. The end.

I do love Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner, but he was meant to serve a different purpose.

It'll be hard to figure out whether that or WALL-E is better at the end of the year. Only movie I expect could surpass both is The Man from London, but who knows when we'll see that? :(

Why? Are we not supposed to say anything critical of the dead? I don't want to sound mean or offensive, but just because someone is dead doesnt mean they are suddenly perfect and invulnerable to all criticism. However, I will not critisize him for no reason or to be offensive on purpose, I have seen too many people make fun of him for no good reason already and that I think is going a bit far.

I think that might already be out in the U.K. I am also looking forward to Burn after reading and the curious case of Benjamin Button. Also I heard Rumors that Tree of life, Terrence Malick's new film, may actually come out sooner than you think:)

I didn't either, many people in here didn't...but you don't see me making threads about it. What's the problem here? Is it something you just can't put in your blog? I really don't think you liked the movie much, because you are letting the 'Dark Knight wasn't that great' or the 'Heath Ledger wasn't that great' emotions take over the 'I thought it was a really good movie.'

I can put my opinion of the dark knight and heath ledger in my blog sure, but I am just interested to see what other people think of the subject too. Thats why I made a thread about them. I wouldnt make a thread just to state my opinion and ignore all others, I want to see what everyone else thinks too. Its not just here I am referring to when I say people who think the dark knight is the best movie ever, its at my school too. I know its their opinion and its ok for them to think that, I am just intersted to know why they think that. I wont argue with them and say they are wrong for liking the dark knight that much.

I havent seen enough of his movies to comment on his acting other then what he did in The Dark Knight, and it was one of the better performances in awhile, atleast be a villian and as of yet he deserves best supporting actor.

I think he's become a little overrated. He died after giving what many people feel was the peak performance of his entire career. So now everyone can imagine that he'd have continued that upwards trajectory to become one of the great actors of our time. Whether or not he would have done so or not had he lived is an open question.

Death has away of elevating someone...and creates more hype. So while I think his performance in TDK would still be considered a good performance...I think the hype would have been much less.

Yes and no...he wouldn't be as big as he is if he were still alive. He's one of those celebrities who become bigger in death than in life. But he still is a good actor.

I didn't care for the Dark Knight, but I will acknowledge that he's a talented actor. However, I think it's annoying that nobody cared about Ledger pre-Dark Knight. It's a shame that he's dead, but it was his own fault.

Personally, I thought Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder was better than Ledger in Dark Knight. Less-serious movies are more of my thing, though.

People liked his performance a lot in this movie because nobody has done a better Joker than him.
