Is HEROES nothing more than X-Men but without the tights?

There's this show HEROES that I've heard very few talk about. It's usually from LOST fans who, hating how weird and convulted the series has become, switched over to HEROES and are naming it the new best thing.

When I first heard of it, I never did like the premise of the show, but watching season 1 right now has made me realize that it's kind of nice. But I feel the similarities between the show and X-men is too great. I mean, for one thing, the show even starts off by talking about evolution, similar to what the first (and I think 2nd) x men movie talked about, how we humans will slowly evolve, yada yada yada.

For another, the whole super power things, the common "you only use ten percent of your brain" myth, etc. etc. all kind of... I don't know, give me the impression that it's trying to cater to x men fans without putting grown-ups in costumes and having cheessy lines, and basically deviating from comic book stuff.

So... yeah. Anyone else seen the show, feel that way, or something? I'm still too early in the season to actually review it, and I know better than to start basing my opinions on first impressions, but...

There is a show called 4400, about 4400 mysterious people who dessapeared and came bakc with powers. It centers around a couple, and I swear most of them have the EXACT same powers as Heroes. Thing is, 4400 came out 2 years beforehand. They are only on Space though, so I think Heroes ripped them off, but were able to have a great audience because their show is aimed at basically anyone, where as 4400 was a bit more sci-fi.

I doubt that, the Heroes superpowers are pretty clearly taken fro just general comic book superpowers. Any superwoer you see on TV or in movies has no doubt been done in a comic already.

Yeah... theyre mutants, they have developing powers that reveal themselves at a hightened state of agitation. Yeah theres was a magnetic powers guy (who thankfully was killed quickly), a healer, a ice power, fire, flight ect.. But as was said, its hard to make a superpowered story with out the generic abilities.

Heroes is a great show with a lot of potential. At this point its going to get either really good, or really REALLY bad.

And it was hard for me to not look at this as a blatant XMen rip off, but if Stan Lee appoves of it (which he does) then its ok with me.

no spoilers now hehe! Yeah that Syler guy seems to be a mix of both Magneto and Xavier. Only "seen" him once though so I don't want to know what happens next.

I'm sure, or at least I hope, that as the series progresses along, the plot unravels further and starts to show more than X Men-like similarities, but we'll just to have wait and see.

Also:

1. I think that the white chick who's always hanging out with the Indian professor is one of the bad guys. No spoilers please. It's just a hunch of mine, a feeling that I can't shake off about her.

2. I really like that Milo Ven-something actor (he looks exactly like my cousin) but he needs to trim his hair. That dopy, hair-over-the-eyes look is really... well, you know what I'm going to say. I also think his ability is like Rouge, "borrowing" other mutant's powers. amirite?

exactly...probably the most original power I've seen was Maya's power of infecting people with death...where their eyes glaze over black...but I'm sure that idea came from a comic somewhere as well.

Peter gets all his hair sheared off at the start of the next season, so don't worry about that. Also, his pwoer is liek that I suppose, but he doesn't need to touch people to absorb powers, just be near them.

It's not even that good. Heroes started off well with a great premise but has since become a repetitive, shallow show with no substance and poor script writing and directing to boot. There's no great drama or mystery about it and it hasn't been any good since about ep. 12 or so in season one. I watched the first 4 eps this season and have decided I'm not going to waste my time with it anymore.

Third season is amazing. You should realyl watch it. Its got the pace of Season 1 with the mystery and intruige of Season 2, and amazing special effects.

Flint is just amazing.
