Ok, just Saturday two halfway homes have just opened up in my neighbor hood, one right next door to me, and another right across the street facing the one on my side of the stree. My mom is scared, and wants to move. We've been lving in the same neighbor hood since 1989(when I was just born) and family and friends are around here.

But my question is, is it a good idea/time to move in these financial times? My mom, dad and sister all have steady well paying jobs, while I go to college. My said we could move, the money isn't a problem, but I said other wise. Also I just started school.

Why would your mom want to move just because houses are going up for sale? If your neighborhood starts putting houses up for sale, the less likely the would be to all sell. Not many people are buying right now, so moving for the sake of it doesn't seem like it would be smart.

Buying, yes...Selling, no. If they have to sell their house to buy another, it would be weird. If they are renting...That's a different story.

It will be great if you're a first time buyer.

I mean no, we payed off our current home a long time ago, it needs little fixing up and we can sell it or not. Depends, but it's going to be hard to sell it with two house full of drug addicts that just moved into the block.

A halfway house is a house where prisoners and drug dealers get released to after they are released from prison so they can be reintegrated back into society.

As long as your mom can swing getting the new house and hold off on selling the old one till the market improves, you are golden.

That's what I'm saying, who would want to live right next door to a bunch of criminals? They didn't even inform any of the current neighbors before they moved them in our block.

I TOTALLY misread that first line of the OP when I posted in here. My bad. Yeah, get out of that neighborhood.

It's going to be hard convincing them to move, they've been saying it for years now. First they wanted to wait until I graduated high school, now she wants to wait until I get my license.

And the thing about it is that It makes me nervous, and depresses me even more. Since I already have a nervous and depression problem.

If there's a better job somewhere else-go ahead. (wish I could) Also you say that you're going to college, Well that kind of makes you officially 'out of the nest" so your choice about the house/home -which you won't be staying in much longer- is probably going to be less.

its not a good idea to sell at the moment however, if you could move and either rent out the current house or keep hold of it until the market picks up, it would be ok.

I managed to buy a new home at a great price, and sell my house. I count myself lucky. It all depends on how willing you are to sell your home, price it realistically, and do what you have to do to sell it, and luck.

Buy a house, don't sell your own, pay off the mortgage until prices go up and sell like crazy!
