that I am in an AP Spanish and can not speak any Spanish? My teacher is so incompetent. She has no clue how to teach. I used to be able to speak Spanish in Spanish 3 but she ruined it for me and my whole class. No one in my class can speak spanish. All we do is watch movies and do stupid current events on computers all the time. You can not fail her midterm because you can retake it as many times as you want till you get them all right. I am not complaining because the class is an easy pass but it is just that I wish I could actually be taught well on how to speak Spanish. Anyone else having this same problem?

Well if it's beginner level Spanish, then I guess it's fine... But if it's a higher level, then I'm sure it would be a hard time.

I took four years of Spanish and can barely speak it. I don't think it was really that any of my teachers were really bad, I just completely forgot everything after I was finished with the classes.

But I can take consolation in the fact that if I ever find myself lost in Mexico, I'll at least be able to ask, "Where is the bathroom?"

Nope. Most ppl in Spanish 3 can't.
If you really wanna learn Spanish buy Pimsleur.
And you will be speaking it fluently in 3 months.

I used it for about a month than stopped, and my vocab is somewhere around 500 words.
Language study in US Schools is pathetic. They don't really wanna teach you the language.
If you immerse yourself and use programs that actually teach you to speak it.
Learning to speak any language fluently in 6 months is not difficult.
You just need the right materials and to study every day.

Don't feel bad, its your retarded school systems fault.
They like most US School systems are probably still stuck in the 1970s
trying to play catch up with there growing population of students.

I am in the highest level spanish in my school but she teaches like we just came into Spanish one. I have learned how to use translators. She does not help us, she just tells us to use translators.

Well the class sounds pointless then. Like what's the point of being in there if she can't teach?

Really no reason except I can relax in the class. Also, it would be pointless to start a new langauge in my senior year. Oh well, I will probably look into that thing Eternal_Triumph was talking about.

Seriously do it, if you really want to learn a language. It's strictly conversational. It doesn't teach you grammar and crap. It just cuts straight the chase and teaches you how to have full real convos with ppl.

Its been very useful for me at my job. I'm one of the only ppl that can speak a decent amount of Spanish which is invaluable. Keep in mind I only studied it for a little more than a month and quit. However I was doing the same lessons twice a day (Each lesson is 30 mins long, you do one a day.)

Wow that is awesome thanks. Yes it is very invaluable, I will most likely be going into the government and knowing spanish will look great for me.

Do you think you'll really need Spanish anyway? Settle down. Learn French instead, so you can go to the nude beaches of France one day, and be able to smooth talk all the ladies.

It seems to me that no matter what high school you're talking about, none of the kids actually learn the language they are supposed to learn. In other words, don't feel bad; it's the same situation in every school.

My Spanish teacher isn;t that great either, so I know exactly what you mean here. Nobody in my class can speak Spanish that well, and this is everyone's fifth year of Spanish.

Well, I'm in my fifth year of Latin and I can hardly speak a word of it...but I guess it's a totally different situation, as no one really speaks Latin anymore. We just focus on being able to write it and translate it.
