Hmm. This thread is actually getting quite entertaining. I was at the casino last week, after seeing this thread, and while at the casino I noticed some advertisements for a Meghan Trainor concert in September. Anways.
@GhostHawk196: My guess is that Trainor probably also does stuff at fashion shows, though I'm not really sure why that should matter. I don't really see why performing at fashion shows should make a difference as to whether or not a person is a good singer. I do agree that looks do matter to a singer's success to an extant. They shouldn't really, but they kind of do, especially as you noted in live performances. Though I've never seen Trainor perform live, I have seen Swift perform on tv on New Years Eve in 2008 and 2014.
@hillelslovak: You make an interesting point. If the singer didn't write the song is it really the singer's art or is it the writer's art? What if the singer collaborated with the writer (I think in some places the writer writes the whole thing) in the writing process. I think there could be an artistic element in how the singer expresses the words in song even if the singer had no role in the writing process. One problem I do have with the music industry is that it seems the singer gets pretty much all the fame and probably too much of the money (though songwriters probably make good money), I think the tech guys (the guys who set up the equipment) and the back-up dancers probably don't get as much money as I think they should. Also on this subject, If I remember correctly I think Trainor started out as a songwriter; she originally wrote "All About that Bass" to sell it to Beyonce, but in the end ended up singing it herself.
@GreySeal9: Yeah he is being too harsh on Meghan's looks. It seems kind of mean to me. I could understand him criticizing her music if he doesn't like it, but if that's his criticism why bother mentioning the looks. And the "cheap hos" remark was totally unnecessary, no need to go after a person's character. But I'm curious as to what you mean by "aggressively shitty".
