Assuming your life isn't threatened, is it ok to kill someone?

I would say in the "Kill one, save x" scenarios. As long as x is greater than or equal to two, you're good to go!
yes
i think if someone hurt or killed a family member, or if a friend called on me in a time of need for some sort of help, then I maybe would kill someone. It'd have to be a damn good reason, mind you.
Morals are relative my friend. Just because society frowns upon something, it does not make it wrong.
Not saying I'm advocating it in any way. It's counterproductive to most societies anyway. The only time I can see society finding it necessary is in the case of overpopulation, and there's other options for that.
If you're asking me if I would kill to protect my property, then my answer is no, not intentionally, anyway. Would I shoot someone in the knee and slap them in the face a few times while they writhe on the ground in agony for stealing my stuff? Absolutely.ViewtifulScott
yea, as much as I'd want to, I dont think I could ever kill someone (intentionally, as you said) over valuables. Slug them with a bat or something, sure, but not shoot/stab them
A thief's/burglar's life may not be worth much, but its definately worth more than my car, a watch, some gold rings, etc.
it really all depends, you really never know.
some of you could say yes you would, but when the time comes you decide you couldn't
some of you could say no, but faced with a very extreme case of protecting a loved one you wouldn't think twice.
i THINK i could if i had to save a random person. if it were to save someone i loved, then i'm pretty sure i could, but who knows, honestly.
If I was defending me or someone I loved such as a family or friend, I wouldn't hesitate to kill.
If somebody needed to die for the benefit of society, yep, I see that as OK.
If somebody tried to rape me, I'd kill them. Even though they are not threatening my life, as far as I'm concerned, they deserve to die.
Only if one believes moral relativism to be a universal truth.......as a philosophy it, too, has it's detractors.Morals are relative my friend. Just because society frowns upon something, it does not make it wrong.

And yes....murder is wrong unless sparing a life.
Same here.If I was defending me or someone I loved such as a family or friend, I wouldn't hesitate to kill.

It sure is, If my wife or children were in a dire situation like someone had them hostage and threatening their lives I'd have no hesitation to cap the person and I'd sleep like a baby. You better not take my stuff..or else

[QUOTE="theharlemshake"]I believe that's called murder, and it's against the law. Ontainnot if you're a soldier or police officer. I believe the term I would use for that is protection and I've only known police and soldiers to fire at people planning to/are already firing back. If lives aren't threatened, it's murder. To answer the TC's question directly, no, I will not kill somebody if my life isn't threatened. No, it is not moral to kill somebody if another life isn't at risk.
[QUOTE="theharlemshake"]I believe that's called murder, and it's against the law. Ontainnot if you're a soldier or police officer. Not entirely true....there are still rules for soldiers and cops.
Right and wrong behaviour is a human invention and entirely up to the person judging you. Killing somebody and not killing somebody doesn't make you good or bad it just makes you think you've done good or bad and other people think you've done good or bad, thus killing somebody out of self defense is no different then killing somebody because you wan't to or because you hate them it's just a way of saying you were attacked first and because your life was in danger you had the right to end somebody else's life because of there actions towards you.
In the society we live in it is wrong to kill somebody for no reason, so if you live by that then killing somebody when it's not in self defense is wrong however i believe some people deserve to die because of the way they act or treat others.
