Lead protagonists women?! seriously after Tekken: Blood Vengence i deicded to look up all japanese CGI films... and it turns out in way form or another there are NO male leads?! WTH!? check it out. (Sources from Wikipidia of course.)

And yeah i know FFVII AC and AC(C) have cloud as the main character but thats the only one, the rest are all women. I didn't know the japanese were so into Feminism. i mean Tekken is all about the Kazuya, Jin etc... and the turn around and make the movie follow two girls instead? What is this.. i don't even..

joesh89

Because if he's right, he's stumbled on one of the few mediums where there are more female leads than male ones. I consider that an important find. He has only sampled a small percentage of the medium, but since the responses have only pointed out two exceptions so far, I find this very intriguing.

While it is interesting, the TC probably only has seen a small portion of japanese cgi's which made it a poor topic to discuss about. If the TC did more research then maybe he/she could've posted about their findings instead of just three mainstream japanese cgi movies.

Which, to rock the boat, can be considered ironic. Considering the history in Japan with their women. Course all countries have a pretty bad history, but they do, I feel, rank up there with a more violent one.

If that were the case, I would have suspected more counter arguments by now. But only two movies were listed. Off topic is one of the more active forums, but no one has found any other examples yet? This is the reason I'm intrugued. After reading his post, I assumed the same as you. But before me, there was only one example given. I gave the second. Which also contained a female lead. If I don't see a big fan of japanese cgi come along and prove him wrong, I may need to research this myself later. When I'm less tired. And when Skyward Sword isn't calling my name. lol

When it comes to prejudice, collectivist nations are generally the worst. However, as a culture, they are less violent. Japan has far lower rates of crime than North America. They are also far more helpful and friendly. But they are far stricter in their gender roles.

I do not want to over extend it however. I do feel as an overall society their approach to say, order and strict roles in said society are appealing at times. However as you said, gender roles. With a history that I feel shows perhaps distinct violence when going outside of those, I feel my statement still stands. Moreso of course in the past. But we are talking specifics here. They are also "big" on the "female purist" leads. Faulted only by scripted ignorance on their character.

Im pretty sure no one will be able to prove me wrong, i've watched alot of japanese CGI movies, a fair amount of them are good, but alot of them, and when i say alot, 75% of the time or more always has a female lead. males are very rare in this genre of entertainment. I hope someone comes on in and totally proves me wrong, but i don't think its going to happen.

It's not just cgi to me it seems. It almost seems like anime today is nothing but a bunch of schoolgirls.

I remember back in the day when liking anime made you nerd. Now-a-days it seems you'd be considered a pedophile. :/

That is a common stereotype, even in Japan. Especially after the otaku killer incident. He was a big fan of shoujo manga and anime. Then he raped and killed a bunch of school girls. His actions actually lead to stricter rules with how girls are portrayed in shoujo and shonen manga.

Indeed. Just to carify, I wasn't trying to say that the stereotype is valid. I just wanted to point out he's correct that people may consider you a pedophile if you enjoy anime.

I wouldn't know, i personally watch netflix and the anime thats on there is pretty versatile, Gurren Lagnn for example (sp?) was freaking amazing, it was all about Manly fury and fighting spirit. But when crap like Appleseed and now this new Tekken Movie comes out featuring nothing but girls, it quite frankly chaps my ass.

Even if they have a school uniform don't expect it to be a stupid harem or a romance series. Look for example Fate/Stay Night, the protagonist is in school and also his companion but the visual novel is quite dark. Same with Kara no Kyoukai(except sixth movie, it is quite lighthearted compared to the other ones) or Steins;Gate.

I don't think DJ meant his post to taken so literally. Just meant that perviness shines through more now than it did back then.

Anyways, I believe the OP can add Resident Evil: Degeneration to the list... though it had a male and female lead.
