Is it just me or does life start to get worse as you get older??

It's more difficult sure, but it's way more rewarding in a lot of ways.

Wait until your 21-22 and have to actually decide the direction you want to take your life... and if you don't have any college done by then you will have a hard time not competing with immigrants with a high school education for jobs... Those will be your workmates.

Reality starts to hit once you become 18 and have to get a career job.

It gets worse in some ways and better in others.

For instance, having rights > not having rights, stressful responsibilities < No real responsibilities, and Independence> no Independence.

Life doesnt really get worse as you age. you just actually enter life as you age.

its just when your done with High School and such, you gain a lot more responsibility(getting a job, college, supporting yourself). before you just had your parents supporting you and less responsibility and a not much accountability.

You're just understanding life is all. You also most likely realize that you have very few restarts now, unlike as a kid. It isn't worst. Its just personal accountability settling in.

my parents made sure I knew this aspect of life growing up, so it wasn't a big forum epiphany. Sucks though, yeah.

I feel the same way, but that's because I'm in a very unpredictable and life-changing situation right now. By next year, my life won't be the same.

It's like this: been working all week for your money, and all of it goes to bills.. if it were enough for bills.

No its true. Everyone gets boring at 30 years old. Look at Justin Timberlakes songs when he was 21 - 26: Like I love you, Rock your body, Cry me a River, Girlfriend. Now look what hes making at 32 years old: Suit and Tie, and his 2 new released songs. See the differences in his lyrics and singing? He switched to an old and boring style because hes old now.

When you' re a kid you pretty much live in your own little world.

Growing up you just get more and more into the real world which is not the playground you used to know.

And that transition is not a pleasant one.

I can remember the first year after high school. I felt so OLD. Trying to decide what you want out of life, what you want to be, should you go to college or a technical school, dating, marriage, children........

Now I'm in my 60s, got a home, a family, a bit of money put by for retirement. To me, this is the BEST part of my life.

It's a different set of priorities and it definitely takes some getting used to.  It's not "exciting" like it was in high school, but it's 100 times more fulfilling.

sorry to be personal here, I would like to ask you when the youth usually fades away? at 40 or at 50, by youth I meant for the youngness, that is the strength in general. I would appreciate your answers, and by the way how do you feel about life over all, is it grand or something?

No you just have more responsibilty and freedom, it seems harder but this is honestly the beginning of you actually living with the training wheels off.

nah you are on the upswing, just expect more responsibilities.

A slowdown occurs ages 38-42, so get most traveling and intense physical activity (except sex you can go on with that many many years later without problems) done before that.

I still feel young, although to most, I'm the "old person". I'm in pretty good shape and have always believed that as long as you stay at the TOP of whatever age you're at, you're ok. There are things that I have "gracefully surrendered" (see Desiderata on wiki) like roller coasters and dancing til dawn. :D

There's things you have to give up in each era of your life. But there's things you get too. It's different for everyone. I'm not saying that you no longer have problems, worries and concerns. I think that you just learn to manage them better.

On the whole, for me, life is good.

Like others have said, it is more difficult but it is also more rewarding. I'm at a similar point in my life OP (though slightly further along). I feel like life for me does get worse as I get older. It should be better (I have no reason to complain), I'm just in many ways exhausted of the daily routine. Now instead of looking forward to the future, I'm just trying to appreciate every passing day.
