Heres a scenario my friend is drunk at a party and can't drive home is it ok to drive him home in his car (since I don't have insurance on it). I don't understand what if a cop pulls me over and asks for license and registration? Who would he write the ticket for?

Thanks.

This is also in US and not Canada.

If you have a license and he gives you authority to drive the car, I believe it puts you under his insurance?

I think that is legal as long as you have a license...

Why would you get pulled over if you were the one driving, unless you were drunk too?

Just saying, why would you get pulled over in the first place? I've never had a cop randomly pull me over...

If the cop pulls you over, and you cannot prove that you did not steal the car, then your ass will be put in jail.

No. . . .because he has to prove it's his car.;) Which he cannot do without registration.

You are driving an uninsured car, that's illegal. A massive fine. If you don't have a license and you're driving, you're getting a fine. And probably going to get the car impounded. COMMON SENSE, use it!

If your friend is drunk how could he vouche for you. Couldn't you have theoretically taken the car from the drunk guy? (however low in probability that is)

Also you AND your friend could have stolen the car

or

Your friend stole the car and picked you up and you simply took over because he was drunk!

I like adding What If possibilities!

I think he meant that it wasn't insured in his name

In that case if you can't provide a copy of your license as well as the owner's license and registration, you're going to get arrested.

Let's, for humor's sake, assume that the proper owner keeps his license on him and the registration in the car.

its ok to drive the car as long as he has insurance and gave you permission to drive. however if you were speeding or something youll still get the ticket.
