i haven't read any of the books or seen the movies, and i might want to start reading the books... my gf says that it's nerdy to read harry potter and its just for kids (i'm 22 btw). her opinion won't stop me from reading the books if i want to, but i was curious as to what everyone thought... is it nerdy?

Your girlfriend doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. There are people way older than you that love Harry Potter. That "it's just for kids" argument is incredibly weak. Read it. Enjoy it. Don't care what other people think, especially your girlfriend. You can't let other people stop you from doing what you're interested in.

Sorry Lucas, but back to the point Harry Potter is an AMAZING book series that i will never regret reading! EVERYONE can relate to it.... **except for those silly Muggles, ;)**

There are lots of more interesting books to read, IMO. But read what you want.
Well, yeah. Harry Potter is about as nerdy as fantasy books get without being outright childish, but is that really such a bad thing? Read whatever you want.
Personally, I love Harry Potter, but I think it kicks off a little too slow. I don't like the first book nearly as much as I used too, and I like the second a little bit less than I originally did, but I still love the rest. I think as my inner child slowly dies I like the books less and less starting from the beginning.
I don't think reading the books alone is enough to make you nerdy. Now if you memorze everyline, and go around in a robe w/ a wand reinacting every chapter... well that's nerdy.
