Is it still paranoia if you have something to fear?

Someone who's always worried that something bad is going to happen to him or just going to happen, is paranoid.

What about someone who is worried that something bad is going to him, and something bad IS going to happen to him. Meaning, his fears are founded. Is it still paranoia?

Something bad will happen to everyone ever. It's still paranoia UNLESS said person is afraid of ONLY a specific thing that is ACTUALLY out to get him. Like the IRS.

I would say it depends on what the "something bad" is.

If the fear is irrational, or not based on any evidence, sure.

I guess it is. I mean, if you steal some expensive diamonds or something and you know the police are looking for the thief, you're going to be paranoid every time you see cops, hear sirens, etc. That paranoia can last years after the case has been closed as "unsolved". He's always worried he'll get caught. Don't know why I picked that of all things to use as an example.

I guess only if the fear is disproportional to how great that bad thing is. But that is subjective to a significant degree.

Your post shouldn't make sense, but it does. A lot of sense. Though, I think you should have used disproportionate?

I find the following quote to be very applicable.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after youSir Cobain

Maybe. If the level of fear is irrational compared to the actual threat.

It's not paranoia if they're out to get you.
