I'm 16 but:

I don't really care for learning to drive?

Or getting a car for that matter?

Or a girlfriend (maybe later in life)?

And I don't care about whether or not I'm attractive?

Does anyone else feel this way? Did anyone else feel this way at that age? How did things work out for you? I have my own goals and ambitions, but I don't think any of the above will help me achieve them.

Well, you're lucky then. But I'd learn to drive anyway, I don't look forward to driving for the social aspect either, but being able to drive can help you get a job, so maybe just do that out of all of those.

Well, I'd recommend at least getting a license, or learning to drive at the very least. Even if you don't need it now, driving is one thing almost everyone does as they get older, and I think it'd be easier to just get it done now in case if you need it later. As for the girlfriend thing, I don't think that matters much. At 16, you still have your whole life ahead of you, no need to get into a relationship just to have one.

It's not that unusual to not really have an interest in driving at that age. Naturally, if you have no interest in driving, you have no interest in owning your own car. Some people see dating as more important than others do; nothing weird about that. You shouldn't be too concerned about your physical appearance, but not caring at all isn't exactly usual.

Yeah, it's weird. There was a scientific study done not too long ago that concluded that if an individual meets the majority of the criteria you listed, that individual will ultimately and inexorably develop a strong, nigh untamable urge to seek sexual pleasure from rubbing themselves on the bodies of the deceased at funerals.

No, I only just realized these things recently. Everyone does it at a different age.

That's true but, IMO owning a car seems like a huge hassle. There's all the payments that need to be made (the car itself, gas, insurance), maintenance, the actual act of driving the car (which I find to be more of a burden than anything else)... I'd rather just move to a city and take public transportation or walk.

I read that study myself. Seek help, TC.

Well im 18, and like you, im a really uninterested person. I just really dont care. I do drive tho, and was luck enough to get a great girlfriend when i was 17, but i didnt really felt happy. All i can tell you is find what makes you happy and do everything you can to get there/it. Even if it means going back to what at first you considered not important.

Ideally, your first car should be cheap enough that you can afford it in one lump sum and reliable enough that maintenance is seldom needed. Naturally, nobody would be thrilled to be driving something that fits those guidelines. I still love driving and I always will, so I'm having a hard time understanding where you're coming from, though...

How old are you? Most adults tell me that it's fun at first but once you've been driving for a long time (usually out of necessity) it becomes boring. That sound simply awful to me, considering that I don't like it to begin with.

Get a car with a manual transmission. You'll learn to drive properly and won't be bored.

I'm 21. I'm a car enthusiast though. A lot of my driving is just for fun. Give me a car with proper handling and a windy road, and I'm in heaven.

Driving gives you freedom, but it also brings responsibility. Eventually you'll want to go somewhere and you won't have someone else to take you, or public transportation.

Well, I've been driving a fair amount every day over the past two years. No signs of getting boring yet. Traffic sucks eternally more though. Especially with a stick shift...

If this is a serious reply... That would be hell on earth, since I'm left handed.

You must be joking. That makes virtually no difference. Why would I not be serious?

You don't need to be particularly articulate with your hand. It just becomes a second-nature motion, even if it's your non-dominant hand. But you don't sound like driving could ever be fun for you, so I wouldn't recommend a manual.

If it makes no difference, how would it be less boring? And I dunno, it just seems like it would be hard for a left handed person lol. And I couldn't anyways, since neither of my parents own a stickshift car.

You should worry about learning to drive because nobody wants to drive somebody around constantly (had a friend like that and it gets old really fast), but as far as getting a girl and not caring about your looks (as long as you are not getting excessively fat) I wouldn't worry about it. Those things will come when they come.

I'm talking about your handedness making no difference. My mother and two of my friends are lefties and drive manuals just fine. A manual transmission gives you much better control over the car and so makes it a lot more interesting to drive. Shifting in and out of corners at speed is not quite the same thing in an auto. Any moron can sit down and drive an automatic. It takes a little skill to drive a manual, but it's well worth the learning. If you ever get the chance to learn, you should jump on the offer.
