It's the symbol of a country, and in the US's case it is a symbol of freedom.ChicaQueenWarGa
Freedom is a nice idea that doesn't exist anywhere
Symbolism. If the Revolutionary War just ended and you were one of the US victors who fought through all that s***, only to see your kid start "burning a flag because it's not hard to come by," what you feel?
If I were in that position, I wouldn't be happy to see my country's symbol of existance burning.
I don't really care either way, I'm just saying.
in my opinion its very disrespectful because its a kick in the face to those who gave their lives for you to be able to have that flag.Hom3_Pwn3r
Same here. It's a huge disrespect to the country/corporation/organization you burned
You guys do know that when a flag touches the ground it is to be burned.
Desecrated though, it should not be, but that is personal choice, right or wrong. It is freedom of speech, if you can have that right than those who which to burn flags have the same right.
It's very disrespectful and it's not the flag that matters it's what the flag stands foro_sausage
You mean what it stands for TO YOU.
Here's the thing...if you abmit that it's a symbol, why would you automatically expect everyone else to have the exact same symbolic attachment to it that you do?
If you think that the flag is a symbol of, let';s say freedom, then please explain to me WHAT about the flag makes it inherently a symbol of freedom to EVERYONE.
And similarly, someone could see freedom symbolically represented in ANYTHING. One could argue that rats represent freedom and trhe American spirit, since they persevere in the face of adversity. Does that mean that you hate America and freedom if you burn a bucket full of rats?

The irony in this, is people in the US are trying to get flag burning banned.. Funny isn't it? They are trying to stop freedom of speech.. One of the most important ideas and freedoms in the US.. Who cares if its disrespectful people in the end its the idea and freedom that matters, people have the right to be complete asses in the US..

Tell me about it.. It seems like in the United States some people are more concerned with the American flag instead of the Constitution.
They say if you rise a flag upside down,Usa troops and soldiers will come in becouse they use that sign for a state of emergency only,Dont beleive me,Try it..Wolf-avatar"The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property."
[QUOTE="Happyphilter"]um.... no. Thats only when its worn out.... :|You guys do know that when a flag touches the ground it is to be burned.
Def_Jef88
So what do you do if you accidentally drop it and it touches the ground?
Seriously, what do you do? Wash it?

Get killed for treason
As I often like to do, I'm going to answer your question with a question:
Suppose you were living in Germany during Hitler's reign. Would it be "wrong" to burn the German flag?

Freedom is a nice idea that doesn't exist anywhere
True, but it's still a symbol of what used to be. It's a symbol of the history of this country, good and bad.In the case of the US flag:
If it touches the ground it should be moved so it is not touching the ground. The whole burning thing is a common misconception. There are a few instances where it is okay to burn the flag however. One such instance is when an American Flag is so worn or tattered that it is unfit to be displayed or flown, then it must be disposed of in any repectful and ceremonious manner, which can include burning. Another instances is when a US Military base is being overrun it is the Commanding Officers responsibility to cut the Union form the Stripes and burn the Union, so it does not fall into enemy hands.
i like the comment about hitler a flag is material with thread sewed on it that is it, for some people it symbolizes more to some people its just a flag, i dont think that its wrong to burn a flag if you have a reason behind it, if you yourself feel that there is nothing wrong with it then there is nothing wrong with it, to those who say that its a disrespect you are entiteled to your opinion but please do not look down on others who feel that burning a flag is justifiedlinkin_guy109
This is about a nation's flag, not some crazy mans graffito. Honor can't be explained. There's only one thing that teaches honor. That is disgrace. A person must be dishonored before they can honor.
Grave Stone is nothing but script carved into stone but that doesn't make it okay to smash it.

Who said it's our flag?

The freedom to burn a flag? :P;)
I say no, a flag is jsut a flag, it doesnt matter how much you harm it because there are millions of other flags exacly the same. It would be different if flags were hard to come by, but they are not so I see no reason why flag burning is that bad.Film-Guy
using that logic I could argue it's okay to burn people :|
