You're crazy if you think metal is better now that it was in its glory days of 20 years ago.
No, it is far better IMHO, music taste is an opinon, not a fact[QUOTE="Pirate700"][QUOTE="rom11"]Better. Pop music sucks hardcore these days but metal is getting better.Darth-Caedus

I think so too, I'd take modern metal over 80's metal any day (just see the sig).
As for the topic, I think it all depends where you look, there's lots of good music nowadays, but you have to dig to find it, if you only look in the mainstream you'll get nothing but crap, I guess that wasn't the case in the past, but the good music is still there.
I'll say worse.

Like I said, nowadays you have to dig to find good music, the mainstream will get you nowhere.
Old music is better IMO, and there is some good music nowadays, but the majority has really gotten worse. But the thing that sucks is that alot of people like the bad music, which is just wrong.RushMetallicaA high percentage of the teenie-boppers that like the crap music from today only "like" it because they are told to by MTV and it's all they know. The real question is 10-20 years from now will anyone remember today's music? Doubtful as most of the 90's songs (minus a few hits) have long since been forgotten.

So because of one person who makes crap music you think our decade of music is worse than older rock?
Unfortunately she embodies the "sound" and image of the '00s.no thats the jonas brothers...cant say there much better but i liked sos:P

Trust me. When we are in the '10-'19 decade, her style and brand of music is how we will remember this decade. Just like how the 60's had a "sound" and the 70s and 80s. They all had different genres and sounds but they all had a brand of music that people remember the era for.The teenie-bopper, up beat sound, IMO will be what is remembered by the masses. Just like boybands for the 90's.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Pirate700"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Mythbuster4ever"]I'll say worse.

I know I won't, there are tons of better singers and bands out there.

Disco was the most popular music of the 70s, it wasn't Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, it was disco. Disco embodied the sound of the 70s.

I agree, but again, I am talking about the masses. Those who rule the airwaves and MTV, sadly, are who are remembered decades later by most.[QUOTE="Pirate700"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Pirate700"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Mythbuster4ever"]I'll say worse.

Uhhh disco was not the most popular music of the 70s. The genre didn't even begin untill the '78 and was gone by 1980. The bands you mentioned were the sound of the 70s and they have the record sales to prove it. Some of the kids on here may only think of disco when they here 70's but that is not what most remember about then.[QUOTE="rom11"]Better. Some of the kids on here may only think of disco when they here 70's but that is not what most remember about then.Disco began in the early 70s buddy. Saturday Night Fever didn't start the disco scene (which was released in '77). Here's the billboard top 100 of the 70's http://www.jjheath.com/Song197x.html hmmmm. I'm not saying that I personally think of disco when I think of the 70s but that was the most popular form of music for that decade.I'm just using your logic of "Hannah Montana is popular therefore its what this decade will be remembered for."
You only see what you want to see for each decade. When I think of the 2000s I think of the internet and how it's allowed lots of great indie bands to get recognition when in past years, they would never have been discovered. The digital age of music is what the 2000s have given us, an entirely new outlet to find musicians and purchase music.
I think this is a hard question to have because each generation have a different idea about what is good and what is not when it comes to music. While growing up we become accustomed to the music that is played by our family and friends. That's not to say that each person has a different kind of preference because of this but I am sure it influences some people.
One question I would have also asked what year generation was someone born. Were they born in the 60s? 70s? 80s? 90s? If so, then ask if music better or worse than it used to be. For instance, my mom still thinks that the oldies like Santana or the doors are the best and no other bands will ever compare.
I enjoy today's music mainly because I got tired of listening to the same music over and over growing up. I think another reason why I like the newer music is because some of the Indie bands bring out that older style of music.
Today's music is no match for that of the romantic period in cIassical music. Even modern cIassical isn't as good as it was back when Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Bach and the others were composing a symphony a month.foxhound_fox
Ok I wasnt really including music that far back but I guess if thats what your more into then more power to you.
