A long time ago, we had religious class. I had to go.

Then i asked my teacher why we are learning about every religion, exept Satanism.

She said that Satanism isnt a real religion, and is only a trend among teenagers that will end soon.

I hate my teacher so much.

Thoughts?

Of course she's not right. Your teacher is an idiot and needs to remain unbiased if she's going to teach a religious class.

Satanism, from my point of view, is not a religion.

I question if this teacher exists....

I will say this, most modern Satanists(exp Church of Satan) are like rebelious religion hipsters and are a very big joke.

There are more hardcore traditional Satan worshipers, but they tend to not get along with society well.

Haha how can you worship something (Satan) that is set on pointing out and enhancing the flaws of humanity? Satan doesn't exist to help humans, on the contrary.

you were forced to goto religious classes at school? was it some sort of catholic school? Otherwise thats totally illegal.

and satanism (i think) isnt legally recognized as an organized religion. A more appropriate question would be "why arent we learning scientology?" unless of course you were taught scientology... which would be lulzy.

really no separation of church and state?

but you obviously wont learn evolution in a religious class. Evolution is science, religion is fairy tales.

Well, the "trend among teenagers" bit is certainly out of line, but the notion that Satanism isn't a religion isn't really that far off the mark. The majority of Satanists adhere to atheistic Satanism, which simply holds as one of its central tenets that Satan's rebellion against God is a philosophical example that people ought to follow, and that they ought to follow their own rules and act in their own interests. Satanism in its majority incarnation is a philosophy, not a religion.

I don't think it's a recognised or "accepted" religion, so I don't think it qualifies as teachable.

My old Religious teacher was pretty unbiased throughout the 4 years she taught us, and never gave away her faith until the last day of our school years. Turns out she's an Atheist

It's definitely not a religion, it's a cult. Do I see it going away though? No.

Well it does seem to be common only among teenagers.... Although true, it was appropriate for a teacher to say.

LaVeyan Satanism, which I believe comprises the majority of Satanists isn't actually a religion. There is no deity. It's really just militant humanism.

You'd be hard pressed to find an actual theistic Satanist, and if you can, you'd have basically learned everything you'd need to know from study of Christianity. They just took the other side.

If I walked into a room, sat down and got told that this is a class on religion, I would get up and walk away.

What people like you don't seem to realize is that there's such a thing called "history" and religion has influenced it more than anything else. As for the OP, you will generally find your teachers are right and you are wrong since they're the ones with the degrees and years of experience. And no, of course "Satanism" isn't classified as a religion, it seems like you don't even know what it is. And I'm assuming she was teaching about world religions, of which "Satanism" is about as relevant as Jediism.

Wouldn't a Satanist still technically be a Christian? Considering that one would have to believe in the whole Christian mythology to believe that he exists. Sorta like how some people would worship Zeus and others worship Hades. To believe one exists, you have to buy into the whole mythology.

Why? Religion is a very important part of human culture and history.
