I've heard from a lot of people that rap has been dead ever since the ATL took over and their club bangers started being the only rap on the radio. But I don't believe this can account for the complete death of rap... can it? What do you think about this subject? Do you think it's dead? I personally don't; while it may be having a drought of truly creative new rappers along the lines of Outkast, GZA the Genius or Nas, but that doesn't mean that there won't be any more. Chamillionaire's career at least seems to be promising...

It most certainly isn't dead yet. It'll be a while before the sun begins to shine through the storm.

Its not dead, its just been beaten to the ground by venture capitalists taking advantage of an ignorant generation. Their are a good amount of rappers out there, but they do not become popular because people want repetition and shallow lyrics.

Music genres as broad as rock and rap dont really die. But rap is in a weakened state due to all these strip hop dirty south sh***y rappers taking over.

Check out Kanye West, Talib Kweli, and Common, aswell as underground rappers. Also lets see if guys like DMX, Nas, and Jay - Z make anymore good albums.I think Jay - Z has become a pop star, though.

You have to wade through the 90% of total crap to get to the 10% of pure awesomness.

LOL, yeah... irony doesn't even begin to describe the fact that he's releasing an album in 2007 when he died 10 years before.

Basically. Just like any genre you have to trim the fat of it to get to the good artists.

I know Kayne West, don't know Talib Kweli and Common. Haven't bought a West album since College Dropout, though, so I need to catch up. And yeah, I most certainly agree that Jay-Z has become more of a mainstream rapper. Then again, he pretty much has always been appealing to the suburban white teenager crowd, so go figure.

Yeah, but I still don't like the fact that there's so much crap. Hurricane Chris, Mims, Jim Jones... Ugh. I'm willing to bet that there are dozens or even hundreds of 10x better underground rappers who would kill to be able to release their album into the mainstream and get some advertising like these people. Only they deserve it a hell of a lot more.

His only three albums that IMO weren't made for the Mainstream were Reasonable Doubt, Hard Knock Life and The Black Album. The rest were good but obviously had a more mainstream appeal.

The Blueprint? The album that is considered one of the greatest hip hop albums of all tim was definately not made for suburban white kids to bump. He has becaome mainstream as of late, but saying always has been is not cool lol

Meh, guess you have a point. But then again, I only bought the songs I like such as 99 problems. So maybe the rest of it was mainstream. As for Blueprint... I dunno. I could never get into it.

Mainstream rap has never been good. But even as a non-rap fan, I admit there is still some decent underground/non-mainstream songs that come out occasionally.

No, as long as there rich white kids there will be rap sadly. I live in a upper middleclass town, and im one of the few kids who is lower middleclass, and also one of the few who doesnt listen to rap. I mean they try to act ghetto too which is messed up.(i mean idk if they listen to rap but please dont try to act black if you have more money than me .) Well imo rap will just linger on for a long time probably never ''die''

i guess its what ever you are in too.
