Is rap the best music genre right now?cashgeeHell no. Its overrated, its popular because people think they can relate to it. Honestly i hate rap, and hip hop too, there both horrible. The only music i listen to is the80's and 70's. This generation killed music.
well everyone has their own tastes. i used to love only rap, but when i was finally hooked on to rock i started to realize the higher and more complex level of expression u get when u combine a great drummer bassist and guitarrist as well as other awsome instruments, instead of sampling a beat over and over.
however, hip hop DEFINITELY has its moments. older hip hop material is definitely a lot better and more stylish and creative. these days, it feels like all rap songs are turning to crunk and i hate that kind of stuff. bragging about ur lifestyle that profusely is just obnoxious and annoying.
i like mos def, talib kweli, jay z, and some more recent stuff like ludacris and whatnot. i was into all of the major artists, but its starting to flow now. i feel like rap is dead nowadays.
Rap is by far the best music out now, it sees no equal. Rap has been studied by music professors at Harvard, Stanford, and MIT and they all agree that it is the best music. Those professors have extensive scientific evidence proving how much more intellectually stimulating rap is than any other form of music. If you don't understand, you are just too simple-minded. no. it deffinetly isn't. there is just a lot of rap right now because it's so cheap to make. all you really gotta do is create a simple beat on a beatbox along with 1 or 2 synth loops and start talking into a microphone. HUGE_Flavor
So why don't you become a rap artist and cash in on it? Or maybe you can't handle doing something as simple as making that dreadful child's play known as rap music yourself?

Sure, let's see it then. I expect you to go platinum at least, I mean an idiot like 50 Cent can sell 6 million, right? Easy as pie.

just because 50 sells lots of records doesn't make him good. it just means mainstream labels know it will sell. i see unsigned rappers all the time that i think are alot better.

You can become a rap artist on a shorter amount of time than you can have a rock group. Rappers have talent, yes. But it doesnt compare to the talent everyone in a rock group needs. Each needs to spend years learning to play an instrument. Than they have to join together with others who have also spent years playing an instrument, then they have to work together to mix each of there talents to make good music, write songs, and sounds, and be a good band. Rappers just gotta be able to "sing" and they can have a studio add a beat, thats not to hard.Rappers, in concerts come out and sing, in a rock group each guy is out there bustin his balls for hours playing an instrument and singing. Any form of rock takes alot more talent than rap.

what if the rapper produces too, a lot of producers play instruments as well
if timbaland gave him a background, he would have a hit. that is the problem with rap music. talentless artists give it a bad name, and take away from talented artists work (MF Doom, mos def, common). you cannot argue that persons such as MIMS and Jibbs and J-Kwon (bubblegum onehit wonders) and people who are essentially a image (50 cent, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris) help the rap scene, and their hinderance is great enough where it detracts from the hip-hop scene.
Hom3_Pwn3r
Correct me if I'm wrong, but MIMS, Jibbs, and J-Kwon all had their big hits without the help of a big name producer like Timbaland. And if MF Doom spit over a Timbaland beat, I'd doubt it would be a hit either since MF Doom's st.yle is way too monotone to be mainstream accessible...

Ehhh people thought the same thing in the 70's and 80's. things tend to repeat in similar forms. just wait in 20 or so years you'll have people who love this generation of music saying how horrible the next is..im not a big fan of rap or hip hop. alot of artists just kinda jump on the wagon and dont rap because they want to they rap because all they have to do is talk about violence, sex, and money and they make alot of cash.

Although I agree that Rock is better than Rap, I wouldn't say Rock musicians "bust their balls". Rock music generally plays musical instrumentsin a very simplistic manner. Fun, but not very difficult. If I were in your shoes, I would use an arguement such as "Rock music feature a higher degree of compositional talent than Rap", but that's just me.[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"][QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="HUGE_Flavor"][QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="HUGE_Flavor"]no. it deffinetly isn't. there is just a lot of rap right now because it's so cheap to make. all you really gotta do is create a simple beat on a beatbox along with 1 or 2 synth loops and start talking into a microphone. Most GOOD drummers do alot of work, not just standing around.

Depends entirely on the band and the style of music.
