SM=Social Media (this thread is in part a response to the thread on the girl committing suicide based on Facebook bullying)
I was 13 years old when Myspace was popular and everyone who was anybody in middle school had a Myspace profile back then. The Myspace fad persisted for 5 years and in that time there was no talk about correlating suicide to social media participation, yet we all know teen suicides occurred.
Is social media itself really to blame or is it the perception teens perceive the impact social media has on their lives to blame? I think it is the latter. Teenagers need to realize that their virtual profile is essentially an advertisement for themself and not who they really are.
