Well?
Do you think the hero in the red cape is overrated?

Whether or not his acclaim is entirely deserved, I know I'd give my left nut to be Superman, that's for sure.
he always bored me like no other superhero.
his main super power  is the ability to pull any super power he  needs out of his  ass when he needs  it.
I've never much cared for him. The concept of an invincible protagonist kinda removed all tension for me.
That's Batman.his main super power  is the ability to pull any super power he  needs out of his  ass when he needs  it.

i give batman a pass on that shyt though because usually he gets his ass handed to him and goes back to the cave and builds a gadget to save the day.
superman just magically comes up with some shyt he has never done before.
Superman has a lame costume. His superpowers are a little bit boring. And to top it off, Clark Kent is lame and boring.
And the villains? They are not much better.
All things being considered, he is rated about right.
Underrated. Fvcking Batman has way more movies and tv shows and somehow more popular. Superman is like a known unknown. Everyone knows him from being the first iconic superhero but he himself isn't all that popular.Capitan_KidThe thing is, I don't think Superman has really gotten the proper treatment in mainstream media. In the comics, sure, but who the hell actually reads comic books? If you ask most people where they were mostly exposed to Batman (or most superheroes, for that matter), they'll say from the movies. And Superman hasn't gotten the proper treatment, because most of his movies just weren't that good. I mean, think about it. Since Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie, there've been at least five major Batman films which have been pretty well-received by audiences. There've only been two stinkers: Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. People generally think the others were decent at least and good at best. Meanwhile, look at Superman. He got a good movie way back in 1978, and then how many since? Well, most people seem to think that Superman 2 was at least okay. And hell, I guess even Superman Returns has a few fans. But the rest is unanimously agreed to be crap. Even most of the better movies are pretty much just "okay, I guess", and the best one is 35 freaking years old. I'm going to suggest that maybe the problem isn't that Superman sucks. Instead, Superman just happened to get stuck with the bad movies. Hopefully Man of Steel will change that. Because while I was never really into Superman even when I bought comics (I was always more of an X-Men person), I actually sort of like Superman.
Again...going by the movies (which I'll wager is what most people judge these kinds of characters by), Superman barely got ANY villains. Basically the only good ones he got were General Zod and Lex Luthor, and the movies were content to rehash the same villains over and over again. I'm not even saying that the comic villains don't suck by comparison to other superhero comics. But even if that's the case, Superman has what...at least 70 years worth of ongoing comics? Given that history, people should be able to come up with enough decent villains to fill a measly five f***ing movies. And I like Superman's costume. It's iconic, it's colorful, it's upbeat. I've got nothing against Batman and the other dark heroes who lurk around in the night, but it's good to have some optimistic heroes to contrast with that. Superman's costume fits the character great. It's something that people can rally around, it's like a shining beacon of hope. His costume is like the goddamn USA flag. It's the same reason why Captain America is dressed like he is. Anyway, that's not to say that bright colors automatically make for a good costume, but the colors work. The red works very well with the blue, the big "S" is like a badge of honor, and the cape helps to counteract the tights and keep him from looking lame (capes are just plain cool, even Batman has a cape).Superman has a lame costume. I myself base my opinion of Superman on the comics. I myself think Lex Luthor is a great comic book villain, and is more interesting than Superman (and, for that matter, more interesting than many other villians in, say, Batman or X-men).
As for the costume, my eyes have never liked bright colors. The flowing red cape annoys me, and so does the skin tight blue costume. Not my cup of tea. Though I will add that in the recent Man of Steel trailer, the colors seemed toned down a little or something, so the costume is bearable to me.
I have nothing against Superman, but the character just never spoke to me. It is nice that he is getting what looks like a decent movie, and I hope it does well, and gets a few sequels, like with Ironman and Batman. And who knows, perhaps the version portrayed in Man of Steel will make me like Superman more than I do now...
Overrated? Not really. Overpowered? Yes.BurningAegis
Oh my... his name is SUPERman and he is a SUPERhero? Once people like you start announcing that a SUPERhero is too overpowered your putting limits on people that are supossed to be able to do extraordinary things.
Superman is too OP? Oh jeez, some guys once said said "Superman isn't overpowered, considering that his rogues gallery includes alien conquerors, quasi-omnipotent imps, evil gods, tyrant suns, super criminal minds, a bald guy that back in the day could invent anything, an imperfect yet very powerful clone, an evil version of himself, powerful wizards. He has to be powerful because he's Superman, he's meant to do the impossible when the odds are impossible."
And overpowered compared to who? Yeah, batman and hawkeye sure.
Hulk- Gets stronger as he gets angrier to the point where he could destroy a planet
Wolverine- Can heal any injury, had his skeleotn ripped out of him and he lived, his claws can sut through basicaly anything, he's been to hell and back, he has highetened senses, no one complains about this guy
Thor- Can lift 100 Quintillion pounds and can basically strike anywhere he wants to, he is an Asgardian after all
Prpfessor X- Can read, control, and destroy any mind he wants (yeah, I know he's dead but he really hasn't been super relevant since the 90's or early 2000's)
Magneto- Can rip apart the world using the magentic feilds
Green Lantern- Can basically create anything with his ring, has no fear
Flash- What is the flash too fast now?
Silver Surfer- Has cosmic and basically limitless power
Sentry- Has the power of 10,000 suns or something like that
And I could go on. But these things I listed are not things that are bad about any of them. They are SUPERheroes. The fact that a little green ring is the most powerful weapon in the universe is a part of what makes superhero comics awesome. So, calling Superman OP is just rediculous unless you want to complain about all the other heroes out there as well.

No... you go into every superman thread and say this. Yeah, he got an update way way waaaayyyyyyyyy back in the day. But that's liek saying Batman can pull any gadget out of his belt when he needs it, like his belt is some trunk from Resident Evil.
Overrated? Not really. Overpowered? Yes.BurningAegisHe isn't even the most powerful superhero in the DC universe.

i implore anyone who thinks superman is "boring" to read this. such an emotionally-driven story with great characters and formidable challenges against superman. hands down my favourite rendition of superman.

This. Superman stories are at their best when writers branch away from vanilla plot formulae.

Batman never gets his ass handed to him, I've been reading every month for the past 8 years.
And whoever thinks Superman is too overpowered...he isn't even as powerful as Martian Manhunter, who has all the same powers Superman has, is just as strong, and he can also shapeshift, use telekinesis, and can phase through solid objects (Think Kitty Pryde from X-Men)
