[QUOTE="rocinante_"]How many Alternative rock bands have come up and been popular since the 90s? Not very many.how do you figure that it's dead?
Kevlar101
by popular do you mean mainstream popular? because if so, you could say many genres are dead. but that's just not true; you just gotta dig deeper to find em

They are actually quite popular in Santa Barbara, they are very well known there.good for them, but you still haven't given any reasons as to why you think the alt rock genre is dead. i mean, you're brother-in-law's band's popularity in santa barbara counters that claim, no? and i can think of several alt rock bands still popular on a large scale today, like muse and radiohead

I don't know.Nickleback is Alternative Metal :?Kevlar101No. They're post-grunge. Alternative rock isn't dead. Have you ever listened to The Flaming Lips? They're extremely popular and are still going strong. There's quite a few other alternative rock acts out there too that are either still around or were formed relatively recently. The genre is anything but dead.

There's plenty of Alternative Rock still around, some of the stuff that comes up now is just a bit different than the alternative of the 90s, some is still similar though.
as for my 2 cents, given that nickelback is bullsh!t and your brother in law's band or whatever is easily comparable, it is, by proxy, also bullsh!t
quit it
How? I mean seriously, I see no comparison whatsoever. Please explain to me how they are similar.as for my 2 cents, given that nickelback is bullsh!t and your brother in law's band or whatever is easily comparable, it is, by proxy, also bullsh!t

[QUOTE="Kevlar101"] Nickleback is Alternative Metal :?SteverXIIIWow dude. Wow Theres a difference between stupidity and what I have been brought up to believe. all the sources I have read from said that Nickelback is "Alternative Metal". I have more than just 1 source, so don't you guys start going all "Wow dude. Wow." like I'm some sort of a dumb-fvck who does not know how to think for himself, and if you got info off the internet like I did, then I guess that makes whatever you gather wrong as well, if everything off the internet is a lie anyway. Go ahead, look up alternative metal and you will see what I mean. Prove that i'm the dumb-fvck.
Alternative rock isn't dead. That genre label is all but extinct, however, due to its vague and muddled nature over the years. What is alternative rock, exactly? The bands slapped with that identifier by various sources have ranged from Modest Mouse to 3 Doors Down.
What you linked to I would be inclined to call post-grunge, because despite your protests, they do resemble something like Nickelback quite a bit.

that being said, there's very little metal elements that go into nickelback's music.
I'm starting to think this topic was made with the intent of people arguing about Nickelback.
If so....well done TC.
[QUOTE="Jethawk11"]Alternative rock has always just been hard rock.I don't think alternative rock is dead at all. Just turn on the radio and you should still hear plenty of alternative rock.
lo_Pine
I don't think they're interchangeable terms, but yeah, there's plenty of similarities between the two.
