The weak dollar ,the perspective of a financial meltdown, the endless Iraqi war ;the lack of strong and reliable moral values . Do you think that the American way of life is in its sunset ? Or is this just a small and unimportant crisis ?

Hmm...dunno. And as long as I make it through college just fine. I lack the concern to care.

I'm fairly certain things will change, and I think people overestimate the problems. Sure they are problems, but we can pull out of them.

It may be going downhill. The world in general needs some reforms in the way of living, if we really want to survive and live in peace.

The American way of life will live on through thick and thin. The politicians and lawmakers on the other hand, their days are numbered. There are over 80 million gun owners in America. Oil crisis? no problem. Americans were living large before gas engines. Americans will always have steak on the dinner table and fur on their backs.

I think the Fiscal Concerns in the United States are a little less serious then you see on CNN,

While the Economy is "Issue One" the reality is that the US Economy has not even reached the definition of Recession yet, you need to have for negative growth for two or more successive quarters of a year, the US Economy is yet to have one, and even Q1 of 2008 saw a small growth in the economy of 0.4%.

When we get to one quarter of negative growth then my all means, we should start to get as concerned as the News Media was two years ago, but the Sub-prime lending issue which helped the dollar get to where it was is nothing more then an example of people buying things they couldn't afford, and getting stomped as a result. Once you clean out the homeowners that should never have been homeowners the market for homes will level off again, I mean we did experience 16 years of growth in the housing market it was not going to last forever, especially with all these zero down mortgages that were being offered.

The market and the economy require a correction every so often, this is just another correction no different then we saw in the 90's and 80's.

No I dont think so.

With that said, why does everyone think America is going to "crash and burn"? It seems like a lot of foreign liberals think America is like this giant roman empire and its going to collapse and Canadian barbarians are going to sweep down and deliver the death blow to washington DC.

Why cant America just, idunno, suddenly become place number two or three in terms of economy. I mean I see all these other countries and they are just fine not being the most profitable.

I dont doubt AMerica will go through rough times during my life, but I certainly dont think its going to die or self destruct lol.

Ah, we'll bounce back. We're Americans, it's what we do.

And when we do we will go back to pwning the world at everything and other countries will be as jealous as ever.

Those foreign liberals you speak of have the wisdom that could save America from it's impending doom.

I didnt mean that as a negative. I mean...theyre foreign (to me) and they are liberal, so that makes them foreign liberals.

Sorry if I worded that poorly.

I don't know if I should be laughing or crying. America was living large before gas engines? It wasn't until after World War I when America began to gain prominence in the worldwide economy, and travel has always increased economic activity, starting with the railroads and the steam engine. America's economy is running on oil, which may not be a good thing since we'running out of it... xD

America has always had an abundance of every single natural resource on the planet. Yes, we were living large before gas engines. It wasn't until after WWI that we realized our potential, and even then it was a partial realization.

America's economy may run on oil, but the American way of life has always been one of self-sufficiency, starting with American pioneers. Laugh, cry, whatever.

I don't think that the lack of strong and reliable moral values is very important, but besides that I would agree with you. America is in need of a change, and a change in it's economic system would be very nice. It's time to do away with fake capitalism and trickle up economics.

Sorry to disagree We in europe (except of coarse the French:lol: ) use to admire those young american boys that came up and help us defeating the nazis and sustain the communist domination over the continent ,During many decades America was the dreamland for Europeans .Why? Because we associate the Nation whit the values of freedom, and rightness now a days after Vietnam ,Iraq GWB this general idea is fade away and we regard the US not a part of the solution but a part of the problem (A nation that spend a great part of the world resources and is doing everything to keep its unfair status )

and somehow this is our fault?

I wasnt aware we were stealing food from Africa. In fact, I am pretty sure most of the food in the US is produced in the US through the hard work of farmers and illegal immigrants.

Plus the same can be said for the British, the Germans, the French, the Italians...take food away from any Western person and you can feed 20 africans.

I dont mind people critiquing the US, just dont say we are the only people with problems OK? Not to mention that when someone's statement ends with "nuff said/period/end o'story/etc" it means theyre full of crap.

This is a false, and dramatized view of the United States that is not only inaccurate, but misleading, as it would be precidence to continue in our current path of fake capitalism, and trickle up economics.

As opposed to your pop culture, media driven, alarmist, college kid-trying-to-make-a-difference view of the United States. Most Americans are perfectly capable of living comfortably without oil. What makes it onto the alarmist documentaries are the urban populations who can't support their own kids much less themselves, and the companies who will DIE without oil. Wake up.

Yep. There are literally thousands of alternatives to oil waiting to be put into use or discovered. I mean we already have a sustainable resource to produce plastics; it just isnt put into use yet because there is still oil.

The fact is, a lot of hippies hope/think America will crash but in all likelihood they are wrong. Oh I am sure in the future there will be a stock market crash of "epic" proportions, and I am sure there will be fear mongering when oil slows to a trickle and reaches 5 bucks a gallon, but we will recover. We always do.

I think thats part of american "arrogence". We are extremely aggressive and competative, a lot of times to a disadvantage. But it also pays off. I remember playing sports with some Immigrants, and they were not disappointed in losing. I remember thinking "Arent you guys pissed off? We just lost the game?" and they were totally indifferent about it. For better or worse, Americans dont like to lose and we will seek any means to keep our societ productive and powerful. Whether this means invading other countries for oil (like we do now) or investing billions into green and sustainable resources and sources of energy (like we should, and often do, now) it doesnt matter.

but the average slave factory worker is on 15cents/8 pence an hour ......Im glad the UN are waking up that China does the world producing ... what happens when they put the prices up .... ????

Sooner than later .. :(

UN said if it happens now an they put a trade embargo on a country .

it would be in ANARCHY in DAYS NOT WEEKS ..:(

I didn't say companies would die without oil. It's not that simple. The congress has been lobbied by the oil industry to prevent research from alternative fuel sources, and that's why we're where we are today.

or the oil companies say they'll buy a patent so they can invest more money in it, then destroy the patent

I fail to see how "do not give food to one american and 20 afrikans will be able to eat NUFF SAID" is not attacking Americans. its biased, and considering the way the arguments on this thread are going it was not incorrect of me to assume you meant wrong.

With that said, sorry for assuming so, but you cant blame me for thinking you meant offense.

I do agree its said that with our resources we cant feed the world, but whats more said is that a country with as much land as Africa cant produce enough food to feed its people. The world is what you make it, and the Africans dont seem to want to make it a better place for themselves.

In short, dont blame America for African poverty; blame Africa for African poverty.

Okay and I know how easy it would be to get a gun from my dad's locker and kill someone. I don't

And just because you don't do it doesn't mean that someone won't.

Or maybe they can't?
