i watched a documentary about it on discovery channel yesterday. "Ross Kemp on Gangs". lets just say, im never ever going to visit Compton ever. well, actually, itd be kinda interesting, but yeah. what a crphole! if you see two shoes thats been tied together and hung over an "electricity wire" or w/e that means that a gang members died on that street.
The US govt have caused the gang problem with their lack of money,education and jobs in the so called 'no go' areas, what do they expect people that feel their is no hope to do, live a nice wholesome life accepting they're regarded as lower citizens??
It is no coincidence that the majority of gang problems are in areas where the majority of people that live there are black or hispanic, that is true of any major city not just Los Angeles.

what?! why do people live there if the gangs run the city? You don't get it do you? All of LA CAN (Read the last word...CAN) be dangerous, but if you don't go to the parts like crompton and stuff and just go walking around at midnight, you won't see many gangs. Gangs don't run the city. I was in L.A, I didn't see any gang members... Oh, and, just about ALMOST every single city has a gang in it.

It is just part of the LA culture that people accept. It is also one of the entertainment capitals of the world (behind Las Vegas) and it has a lot of historical prestige, which I don't exactly care about. I would never live there though.

Ok, since you seem to have trouble reading, I will explain this to you again...Unless you live in Beverly Hills (and to a lesser extent Malibu) there are going to not only be gangs, but a heavy presence. That includes where you listed as part of that everywhere.

I live in Los Angeles... unless you go actively looking for gang members -- you're fine. They're not going on a vendetta to hunt you down. They could care less that you are here. Even places like Compton and South Central where gangs are prevalent still have people living there and they're fine. So you're fine. Drive by and shoot outs aren't something that happen every minute. They just tend to happen in certain areas more than others.

Funny... we sent one of little white boy clients to South Central for an audition for a movie. He was fine. Funny thing is - he didn't get lost. Our big black guy client did. (Not being racist - just using physical description)
it doesn't matter what color you are, you'll be fine for the most part if you just mind your biz. i travel the states on biz all the time and gangs are everywhere. only the ppl who stay in their house on the couch or PC all day every dayare shook by the gangs. dont be like one of these panzies, you can walk and drive thru these areas. they are not as bad as the media portrays them to be, put down the remote control and get some air....
