Is there a way to turn off my laptop monitor, without turning the laptop off?

I want to clean the monitor but i don't want to turn the laptop off. Anyone know a way? Any free software to do it?

Hook it up with a vga wire to another screen.

The only way i can think is if you right click on ur desktop and go to properties then go to screen saver and change your power settings so that your monitor turns off in 1 min, then dont touch the keyboard or mouse for a min and the screen will turn off then just tap em to turn back on. Only way i can think right now without having to turn ur lappy off

if you have a macbook then just reduce the brightness until it goes off
