Simple question, if it was continuous torture with no hope of survival such as in a james bond interregation scene that makes you prefer death then yes i would choose death

But if it was endure one night of pain, or a few years in prison with some abuse i would say nothings more important than life, as long you believe you have hope

Humiliation, how bad can it be to be worse than death?

pain, it's not like you're gonna suicide the moment you get in a car crash or lose a limb

but then as i said, I would not last a violent interrogation, unless i was promised to live

life imprisonment is cool with me, i mean you TECHNICALLY have the abillity to suicide if you wanted, but you can't go back to your one cell after you did choose to take that cynide pill before the cops got to you

if you live to survive, you'll laugh at the day where you "wanted to let go, but had faith that you were gonna live"

but of course, when you do get tortured that way, you probably have no way to survive

I don't see the big deal about dying, you don't even know it's happened. Think like a dreamless sleep, you don't know when your asleep, you only know you slept once you've awoken. Death is better when your unhappy, and have no chance of achieving happiness.

Suicide lol. But seriously thats the only thing I can think of worse than passing away would be to take away my own life. I know the board is usually pro choice, everyone can kill themselves if they want, its understandable etc, but in my opinion it's the most despicable thing you can do.

*edit* Most depicable besides killing and harming other people though lol.

Verge_6

why does everyone say this?

immortality would be tough...for a while. But like all things, you'd learn to accept it.

And immortality is so subjective...is it Death Becomes Her immortiality, where your body is subject to the physical world? Is it Highlander immortality, where your body heals but you can still die via decapitation? Does your life end when your body is burned to ash or cut into five pieces?

Personally, I would value immortality above all else, provided I can die eventually (yes, I know that is not true mortality...more like infinite life). I've seen people die before; God willing, my parents will go before I do (I know that sounds bad, but hey...they got 35+ years on me and they'd hope for it too) and theyre as close to me as anyone. Loss is part of life, immortal or not.

Being immortal would jsut...be...awesome.

Imagine being able to speak dozens of languages
Imagine travelling all over the globe
Imagine incredible wealth from learning how to play economics and having the time to do so
Imagine loving, legitimately loving, many women and having all kinds of relationships (I don't believe in "the one", so this is acceptable to me)

I say no because even as a Christian, I am still a little uncertain as to what happens after death. Is there an afterlife (Which I really do believe there is even though it may not be what I think it'll be,) or does life truly end (I personally cannot understand how or why it would.) Nothing scares me more than those thoughts oddly enough, except the death of loved ones for the same reason.

So nothing else is really worse as its all temporary. In my opinion of course.

Exactly! The only downside would be the loss of family since they can never be replaced. I don't know of a heavier burden but to be able to see how the human race plays out since we'll never end unless some kind of freak of nature happens. Like the universe ends/swallows itself or something. You'd be left alone in total darkness/blackness forever.../mind blown. You'd go f'ing insane.

Yeah I always have those thoughts where I think "what if there is nothing after, what if when I die I will literally cease to exist and be forever lost". Having been alive and having a thought process the idea of just not "being' anymore is frightening. But I always usually come to the conclusion where I believe there is just no way there isnt some form of afterlife and a creator (which I believe is God) the universe and the almost perfect conditions for a planet to hold life is too complex to just happen.

My thoughts exactly. I just can't comprehend my existance ending. I believe there is a creator and some sort of afterlife. It could be exactly what the Christian faith states, it could be reincarnation for a new human life (I'd HATE to reincarnate as a fish or something like that,) or it could be walking the Earth as spirits appearing randomly on people's video recorders to cause a new sensation on YouTube. In the end, I always end up thinking that life doesn't end with death.

I always thought human life was too complex to just happen. A creator makes much more sense. Many will disagree but so far there isn't a 100% proven truth.

I'd assume you would perish like everything else. Like I said, interpretation of immortality is relative from person to person; I happen to think it means normal stuff cant kill you and you regenerate and dont age (but an asteroid would, and lack of willpower would cause you to die, i.e. resignation), others think it means youre stuck here forever. The universe isnt going to swallow itself and your not going to be left floating around in this infinite white space with nothing but your thoughts.

I mean, think about it: if immortality is intolerable, then how is Heaven any better? Our souls or immortal, right? Then Heaven would be Hell, and Hell would be Hell. Its lose-lose.

I'd rather be immortal on earth than immortal in heaven; on earth, it'd be endless diversity (not boring), in heaven , it'd be endless pleasure (boring)

I imagine I would evolve with humanity, or at the least be able to adapt. Either way, humans won't change, we change our environment and tools instead.

I imagine the end of things would be a nice conclusion to a few hundred thousand years of human existence...maybe even millions.

Like I said, my version of immortality is still subject to the end times/armageddon/mass destruction/suicide/etc.

According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.

Being dead isn't good or bad, so it's neutral. So being unhappy is worse, but you're probably going to be happy again soon so you won't commit suicide. If your unhappy for a long time and have no hope of getting happy again, it would make you want to die because no emotion is better than bad emotion.
