Theres this big straight hill on the way to my house. In order to save money I have started to turn my car all the way off and just coast down the hill..I know this is very dangerous and very illegal but with 5$ a gallon it saves me a nickel or so.

Any better ways to conserve gas?

No. That's pretty much the best way to do it.

Well I always see these Pulstar things in PopSci and PopMec and it says they're more efficient than a regular spark plug

There are a couple of curves on the hill and with the car off stearing is a bit harder as theres no power stearing and also the brakes dont work as well...But other than that I feel totally in control

I think the best way to do it would be to go at the hill in reverse.

If you save $.50 a week, that'll add up to $2000 in a 75-year lifetime. I don't think it's worth it personally. And I didn't know this was illegal.

my parent's neighbors do this. Its a good 1/2 mile to the bottom of the hill to where one would need to start the car.

Frankly, I find such desperation should be beneath people and it comes off as a vain attempt to look "green". How are you going to feel tho when a cop pulls you over for coasting through a stop sign, or worse, if you cant swerve to avoid hitting a little kid in the street because your power steering is off?

Its a nickel, man...just start the car. Assuming you drive, from home, 12 times a week, that equates to only 31 dollars of gas per year saved.

Heres a pretty simple settup for making a Hydrogen Fuel Cell, they're relatively easy to make.

No, I read an article on this or it was on the news, but modern fuel injection cars don't use hardly any gas to start up.
