The Cartoon was done by an Indian news paper after an Indian student was stabbed to death in Australia not too long ago. It basically depicts the Victorian police as a White supremacists. The words used to describe it are "Very Offensive" but why not racist? If the Police officer it was depicting had been Asian or black then they would not have dressed him up as a member of the KKK, it was only becuase he was white that they chose to do so. If the situation had been reversed and it was an Australian news paper depicting Indians in a bad way then every second word you would hear is "Racist". I know it always seems like there is a double standard when it comes to racism but does this just prove the point?

Something racist is offensive so I can't see how something can be "very offensive" without it being racist. Anyways I think it is racist.

wouldnt say its racist but very offensive. the cartoon doesnt have the intention to hurt a race nor does it show it, as the badge clearly shows whos its aimed at, for it to be racist the logo could have been changed to a logo of australia. plus its very offensive as its linking to the occurance of the white supremists extreme ideolgy in america in the early 1900's to a police force.

Yes we understand, the world hasn't reached racial equality yet, and it's not fair, but after all other races being subjected to sub-human treatment by white people, people tend to let somethings slide. Is it right or fair? No, but nothing in the world is. Maybe in a few hundred years, people will have forgiven and forgotten, but it's still too soon right now. It's the way of the world. People are tend to overcompensate to fix old problems, sort of like if a man cheats on his wife, he will put up with a lot of insults and what not because he feels guilty. The US overcompensates with Affirmative Action, Germany will back just about anything Israel proposes not because they neccessarily agree with it, but because the Holocaust is still fresh on their minds. Same applies with a lot of nations.

Racism actually means that one race is discriminating another race so this is racism because, its discriminating people in austrailia as black killers.

I didn't know the cops were their own race. :P (I voted not racist)

The cops are being signified as 'white' KKK. The cartoon suggests they're covering up the truth because they're racist themselves.

I didn't see the term "white kkk" so they weren't being racist...they were being offensive. I just don't see racism here on either sides.

The term "white KKK" isn't there because it's redundant. That's like the term "black black panther." The KKK is a white supremacy group. . .

Indian culture is extremely conservative.. There was public outrage when Richard Gere kissed a Indian actress live on tv, to the point they wanted him thrown in prison.. I don't find this kind of behavior surprising what so ever.

The Cartoon:o

Delhi Mail Today cartoon

It is not racist because the cartoon is comparing a local police departments actions (or more of lack of action related to a murder) to that of the KKK.

Just the standard political cartoon.

The Indian culture is becoming less and less conservative as the years go on. I know because I'm Indian. India is changing pretty fast to more of a Western-style culture.

I think this was probably a bit of an overreaction, but the article says "There has been a spate of street violence against Indian students in recent months in Melbourne..", so I think the cartoonist has overreacted a bit after hearing this news.

So an Indian kid was stabbed to death by a white and the Indians think that the police aren't doing enough about the murder because they don't care about the Indians. It's absurd to think every police officer is a racist, but it's also absurd to act like there are not racist police officers that have a history of looking out for their own.

I'm kinda surprised to this happens in other countries too, because I know blacks and Hispanics here in the U.S. are often paranoid that the police are racist even when they are not, but I don't really blame them because they're are many times that police actually are racially prejudice toward them. Is there a history of police mistreating minorities in Australia?

But this isn't really isn't offensive toward whites in a whole, but maybe the whites in the Australians police force and and the police force as a whole.

The article states "There has been a spate of street violence against Indian students in recent months in Melbourne..", so what I'm guessing is that the cartoonist felt that they dont really care about investigating these violences because they are Indian. Still, it looks like the cartoonist overreacted a bit, but most political cartoons are a bit of an overreaction.

They don't know that the person who commited the crime is white and there is absolutely no evidence to show that this crime was racially motivated. There is alot of Indians living in Australia and we have our fair share of crime. The only reason it seems like there has been an increase in crimes against Indians is because the media (both Australian and Indian) has focused on those particular cases.

Without getting into a whole social issue non-Australians, and even a lot of Australians, don't see or understand themselves...

There are a lot of ethnic groups in Australia who feel the need for reverse racism. In other words, because they're not white Australians they feel the need to be "victims". The same thing can be said, and I'm mainly going off TV here, in America where a simple statement towards a minority suddenly becomes racist because it's a white person saying it.

These Indian students need to realise that just because they're attacked doesn't mean their attacks were racially motivated, and the police aren't going to make it a hate crime just because the victim wasn't white. If the police can't say why the attack happened they're not going to make assumptions. And Indian news outlets have no right making such ridiculous and obviously racist remarks about Australian police policies when I'm sure by Australian standards the treatment of some Indian ethnic groups by other Indians would be seen as backwards and barbaric. I'm not even going to get into the practices of Indian police, because I'm grossly misinformed/ignorant about it... but I can only imagine the inhumane ways they treat prisoners over mild offenses (based on the little bit I do know).

I'm pretty pi**ed off right now about this whole situation and the way the indian media has been behaving, as well as the public with the burning of australian flags and such, i mean why would you send your daughters and sons here if you think it's such a bad country? why are minorities so easily offended? i understand that many minorities have suffered throughout history, but i think that many people take advantage of their being a minority.

i think that the cartoon isnt racist and that because of freedom of speech the person that made the cartoon had every right to publish it but just because he had the right though doesnt mean that he should have done it.

Inasmuch as the cartoon attacks the police, not a race, it is impossible for the cartoon to be racist.

That doesn't make it less stupid, though.

They are still far safer in Australia then they are in their own country, there is about 300 murders in Australia each year compared to over 32,000 in India. Makes you wonder how much the Indian media exaggerate the whole situation.

You are comparing murder rates of a country with a population of about 1.1 Billion to a country with around a population of 21 Million..

It still works out to India having twice as many murders per person then Australia. I would also suspect India has many more murders that are not reported or investigated as murders.
