Note that this is opinion.

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure am getting tired of great bands releasing new albums this year that don't live up to their earlier albums. Has anyone else noticed this? The only album that has me wanting to listen to the first song to the last song this year is Mindless Self Indulgence's "If". Here are a few albums that have been released this year that haven't stood up to the bands former albums...

OOMPH's "Monster" was just released and it's not nearly as good as GlaubeLiebeTod or Warheit Oder Plficht. Mostly the reason i don't particularly care for it is because of a lot of songs don't have rhythm. But Labyrinth is a really good song.

Disturbed's "Indestructible", while good still isn't as good as their older stuff. Much of the songs sound exactly the same and I can't find myself listening to the whole album, only a few songs...

Nine Inch Nail's "The Slip", pretty much the same problem with "Indestructible". Doesn't live up to Trent's other albums and I can only manage to listen to a couple songs on the album, the other songs just aren't that good.

Slipknot's "All Hope Is Gone", they went back to their roots in a way, harder rock and lyrics that are just terrible and without meaning. I loved Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, but this new album goes into a completely different direction with it's terrible lyrics and no rhythm.

Has anyone felt this way about the bands that they like that have released albums this year?

I thought coldplay's album was pretty good. I won't say it's their best ever, but it sure is worth listening. Also, we've still got half a year.

The Bedlam In Goliath was pretty kickass if you ask me. Although yeah, none of my other favorite musicians have released any new stuff this year. Pretty dissapointing.

I've had a new Avantasia, Opeth, Tiles, Jorn, Coheed & Cambria, E.S Posthumus, King's X, Poets of the Fall and Ayreon!

I've been very satisfied so far this year :D

Well, Slipknot has been going downhill since all their "fans" became 12 years old and just trying to be Trendy. Disturbed got downhill since they pulled a Slipknot with the same fan base. Nine Inch Nails released With Teeth a couple years ago, they came back after a nice while with that cd and it was fantastic. Quarter 4 2007 was awesome because The Black Dahlia Murder released Nocturnal which was a huge hit and one of the more anticipated albums of the year, next to the other one that i loved as soon as i heard, which was Colors by Between The Buried and Me. 2009 will be good with the new Cannibal Corpse album that I've heard rumors of. Children of Bodom had a good album this year, Blooddrunk. The "metal" like Slipknot and Disturbed are losing their place, and being pushed aside by bands like Protest the Hero and very famous death metal bands which are making great comebacks. Moving into Protest the Hero, Fortress released this year, and it was very, very good, one of the more impressive albums from the progressive metal genre. I suggest a listen to it, it will blow your mind, same with Between the Buried and Me's album Colors. Those two albums will be worth the time, with the fantastic technical instrumentals.

In all honestly it's the worst decade for music, lots of trash Emo bands are emerging among lots of new Sub Genres that are just getting on my nerves. I miss the good old days Mid to early 90's, all of the 80's, some of the 70's and the 60's...... Lets hope we all get out of this slump and one other thing what's up with mixing rap and rock? They don't go together, yes yes I know Linkin park....but really have there been many other bands pulling it off?

Opeth's Watershed was amazing, Judas Priest released a fantastic album this year, Indestructible is, in my opinion, Disturbed's best album yet, and Shinedown released The Sound of Madness, which is also fantastic, so no, this year is pretty good for music.

2008 is great. Portishead put out their first album in 10 years! And it rocks!

Flight Of The Conchords put out a studio album this year.

Coldplay also put out a good album.

2008 has been a great year for music, just the mainstream stuff was a bit dissapointing doesnt make all music for this year bad. You guys really have to look beyond the mainstream, here is a list of bands that have released great albums in 2008:

Super Furry Animals

The Dodo's

Blackstrap

Beck

British sea power

Meshugga

Dokken

Elbow

Elf Power

Guillemots

The hold steady

Islands

The Kooks

Neon Neon

Laura Marling

Mudcrutch

No Man

My morning jacket

Shearwater

Spiritualized

Vampire weekend

The Black keys

It's the worst decade for music if you limit yourself to mainstream music, if you broaden your musical horizons and actually look for lesser known bands you will find tons of great bands. Thats the main difference between our decade and others music wise. Before the Mainstream was good and had lots of good bands, now its the complete opposite. Most of the best music is lesser known, you just have to look for it.

It was a actually a very well received album garnering mostly positive reviews throughout the music world.I wouldn't say the album is trash. There's a difference between not liking a music and recognizing good musicianship. For example, I dislike country music but I recognize the musicians who play it are phenomenal at what they do. Peter Stroud, Sheryl Crow's lead guitarist is an amazing guitarist. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't good.

Coldplay did put out a good album, but it is not their best. Its gonna be hard for them to put out a CD that will ever surpass the masterpieces known as Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head, althought Viva la Vida was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than X&Y

All the best stuff is probably going to come out around the fall. The only album I really really enjoyed was The Fall's album. Some other good ones I picked up were The Roots, Lil Wayne, The Dodos, and Nas.

So music you hate now will suddenly become good in twenty years?

That's a logic I cannot get behind, good man.

I've found some good CDs this year.

Coldplay-Viva La Vida (Wayy better than X&Y)

What Made Milwaukee Famous-What Doesn't Kill Us (looove this album. I'm surprised the band isn't more popular).

Jason Mraz-We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things (Specifically the special edition. Totally worth the money for all the acoustic tracks, which are much better than the studio versions IMO).
